Let me begin by saying that we have been fortunate enough to travel to some of the best beach resorts around the globe. We had never been to the Maldives before although we have considered this trip for a long time. We selected Baglioni partly because of the Italian heritage (although we discovered when we were on the island that the chain has recently been acquired Mexico's Palace Resorts). The pros: - The island is very pretty, has beautiful foliage in the interior, and some nice stretches of very white beach and extremely clear water. - Overall the staff, who hail from various places all over the world, were great and really made the stay memorable. I will certainly not remember everyone but Sanjay (pool bar, great Mai Tai's), Upender who amazed us with not only his housekeeping but wonderful towel creatures on our bed every day, Anas, Giiyos (our favotite server), Darshana and Foysal who helped us every day at the pool, Solle (great snorkel trip), Upendra, Valerie, and Ambe were all amazing. Excellent service all around. - Food quality was excellent. Breakfast was anything you could ask for. Dinner was a little limited for us and we found ourselves eating the same meal multiple times in the 10 days we were there. - The Deluxe Beach Suite with pool overall was nice and spacious. The bed was very comfortable, huge living room with couch, dining table, TV, mini fridge, etc. Multiple closets spread throughout the suite were great. - The island is quite small (you can walk the perimeter in about 12 minutes) and there are no roads, only sand pathways throughout the center leading from rooms to the various restaurants, dive center, spa, etc. Although many people walk at night to dinner since we were dressed up a little we preferred to drive in golf carts on the sandy paths to the restaurants and the staff always accomodated us back and forth. - My wife used the spa on several occasions and thought it was great. The cons: - The beach outside of our location was not really nice so we found ourselves staying on the beach near the pool and pool bar most days. Many of the beach suites are actually on the other side of the island than the side you see in aerial pictures and although snorkeling is good there the beach is not. - It is not the end of the world but what you do not see in any online pictures of the island are the numerous rock jetties that have been added to help prevent beach erosion. I totally get why these were built but they are obviously not very attractive. - The loungers at the main beach by the pool and pool bar are basically lay flat beds. We would prefer some regular chaise lounges that can be adjusted and allow you to sit up for example if you wanted to read. The other problem we had was that the beach umbrellas are quite small so it is impossible for two people to both have shade at the same time. The umbrellas at the pool were sigificantly larger and very nice. - The biggest con for us were too many families and kids
