It was a very poor experience for our stay with Britannia Hotel. The only point for choosing this location was central location. However, due to windows are single glazed, noise from the central part of Manchester are throughout the whole night. You can hear conversations from everyone in hotel and outside of hotel all night long hence unable to sleep. Very heavy door so everytime someone shut their door it shook the whole floor. There is no ceiling light, only desk lamp. Separate hot and cold water taps. Toiletries only 1 tiny soap. Overall, it was a terrible experience in this hotel for GBP 150 a night.

Britannia Hotel Manchester has an undeniably grand, old-world charm—but it shows its age in ways both atmospheric and inconvenient. The lobby’s sweeping staircase and chandeliers hint at past glory, and the central location is excellent for shopping, trains, and nightlife. However, that vintage character often slips into dated and tired. Rooms vary widely: some are spacious, others cramped; décor can feel worn, with scuffed furnishings and thin walls. Cleanliness is generally acceptable but inconsistent. Bathrooms work, though water pressure and temperature can fluctuate. Service is hit-or-miss—some staff are friendly and efficient, others seem overwhelmed during busy periods. Noise from corridors and nearby bars can be an issue, so light sleepers should request interior rooms or bring earplugs. For the price, it’s a functional base in the city center with nostalgic charm, provided your expectations are modest and you value location over modern comforts. Potential, but in need of refresh.

The room was a bit on the small side, and the facilities were a little dated. However, for this location and price, it offered excellent value and is definitely recommended. I was assigned a room at the end of the corridor, which I'd hoped would be quieter. Unfortunately, there was some kind of event happening in a nearby village, and it was noisy all night, haha.

We stayed here for 3 nights bank holiday weekend. The hotel is dated but it was clean, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and approachable.

The building is rather old, and the wooden windows meant it was quite noisy at night due to poor sound insulation. With many rooms and guests, check-in was a bit slow; even with three counters open, each line took around 11 minutes. On the positive side, the price was reasonable, and its location close to the city center and train station offered very convenient transport links. The breakfast spread was also quite extensive.

I'm puzzled by the low ratings for this hotel. After a two-night stay, I found it to be an excellent hotel, offering great value. Both the exterior and interior boast a strong, classic British retro vibe. If an influencer were to pick it up, it would easily become a viral sensation. I had booked a twin room but was upgraded for free to a duplex room on the 5th floor, which featured a large, round window, reminiscent of Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. The location is also incredibly convenient. It's just a 5-10 minute walk from Deansgate Station, and most of Manchester's main attractions are within walking distance. The surrounding area has everything you could need, including various tram stops, supermarkets, and restaurants, not to mention popular spots like HeyTea and Pop Mart.

The hotel boasts a great location, just a twenty-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly train station. However, be sure to use your navigation carefully to find the main entrance. A buffet lunch is offered for an additional charge, but it concludes at 2 PM. With over 200 years of history, the hotel truly feels like a grand palace. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and quiet. A big thank you to the staff for their excellent service!

This hotel is centrally located and incredibly convenient. It's close to the train station, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

Major advantages: The location is fantastic. It's about an 8-minute walk to Piccadilly Station, and Victoria Station is roughly two tram stops away. Getting to Oxford Road Station is easy with plenty of bus options, thanks to the Piccadilly Gardens bus interchange being right on your doorstep. Chinatown is also just a 2-minute walk. Second advantage: It's the cheapest hotel in the immediate area. Major disadvantage: At check-in, the hotel provides a single sheet of paper that effectively sums up everything, managing your expectations from the get-go. Summary: You get what you pay for. If you're on a tight budget, don't expect to be pleasantly surprised.

The room had no air conditioning, and with temperatures reaching 20-28 degrees Celsius, it was scorching hot upon check-in, making it extremely difficult to sleep. The entire hotel, from public areas to rooms, was carpeted and had a distinct musty odor. Soundproofing was terrible; we could hear creaking floorboards from other rooms, and the street noise outside our window was so loud it kept us awake until 4 AM. The hotel's decor, exterior, and other facilities are clearly very old. While it possesses a certain classic charm, it's obvious it has suffered from neglect and poor maintenance over time. I'm baffled by the numerous positive reviews on Ctrip. Perhaps these issues are less pronounced in winter, but I certainly wouldn't want to stay here another day.

The hotel is located at the city center with close proximity to almost everywhere, but the room barely meets the need for a short stay. I am guessing my room doesn’t have any air-con installed which made it as hot as a sauna room during midnight. I won’t really recommend this place if you are going to stay for more than a day!

Excellent location, right next to Manchester Piccadilly Station, a major transport hub. The price was affordable, and everything else was decent. Overall, it's still a good choice, and I'd definitely make it my top pick for future visits.
