We haven't been before but we will be back! Really good portion sizes. Hispi cabbage with dukka breadcrumbs was lovely and my partner really enjoyed his steak. He didn't want a sauce with it but it was served with roast garlic and rosemary on the steak which added to the flavour. Service friendly and timings of food delivery also good. Couple of minor points - main course plates were cold so the food didn't stay as warm and no-one checked back on us after we had received our main course. Pretty standard to do this these days and of course if there had been a problem we would have gone to find someone. However there seemed to only one person doing everything and he was doing a good job! As already stated, we will definitely be returning.

A lovely old coaching Inn dating back 300 years and part of the hotel is 500 years old. The staff are great and the evening meals were unbelievable. Never tasted anything so good. The rooms are obviously old and quirky. We really enjoyed our staff and do not hesitate to recommend this fantastic place.

As a group of four we went to the bear for a celebration meal for the first time in many years. I must say we were all pleasantly surprised at the overall positive experience from the moment we entered the bar through to the end of the meal. It was all positive, from ordering the food from the very knowledgeable young lady who seeped to know all about each dish on offer. The two courses of food itself was cooked to perfection given that we all had different items from the menu, that's 8 different dishes to prepare and all served simultaneously. We all agreed that the experience was first class and will certainly be visiting again in the not too distant future.

We came here as a family for Mother’s Day, the service was brilliant & very friendly staff. We ordered a Sunday lunch and it was the best one I have had for a long time! Beef was cooked perfectly, lots of choice of veg, homemade Yorkshire puddings & good portions! I will definitely be going back.

This old guest house pub is a must place to visit whether you’re visiting Derbyshire or you live close by. It is full of charm with fabulous food . The menu is varied with game , pies, chicken and veggie options . Our meal is the best we’ve had in years , cooked fresh and full of flavour . The staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you .

Came for a meal with my partner and son last week, staff were fantastic, very pleasant and helpful and the food was amazing, best meal we have had out in a long time. The chicken florentine was so tasty and the desert was amazing, highly recommended to friends and family

I wanted a few days of peace on my own in a familiar area, where I was 'looked after'. The Bear fufilled all those wishes. The beautiful rustic charm of this long-historied building was delightful and clearly popular with local people and families, who found their food needs amply catered for. I loved the individual decor of my bedroom. Chris, managing The Bear, was friendly and helpful, as was everyone I met who worked there. The breakfasts were excellent and kept me going for the 2 days of walking I had planned. All the food was really good, of a high standard without being expensive. I enjoyed comfortable evenings tucked into a cosy corner, taking in the atmosphere while 'doing my own thing' sipping a good wine. I have recommended The Bear to friends and will return myself.

Hadn't been to this pub before. We were passing and needed some lunch on a Monday lunchtime and found this. How superb it was. Absolutely delicious food. I had the ox cheek with mash and it was so nicely cooked and full of flavour. We will definitely come back for food again. Nice service and warm fires too for a chilly February.
