Lovely pub downstairs. With restaurant and large outdoor area. Our room was a good size and a large modern en-suite. The breakfast was very good. We had a large full English.

love this pub, always classy, clean and great food. Popped in for lunch and sat in the sun for the first time in 2025, we had a lovely starter and meal while sat out in the sunshine with a stunning west country view. This place is always worth a visit for a special occasion

Can I point out that a discretionary charge means just that you have the option not to pay, I have just read the Xmas menu for 2025 at the bottom it says " 12.5 % discretionary charge as our staff are working " well of course they are working it is their job and what they get paid for , I have never seen it put that way before.

We only called in for dinner after a lovely shopping trip to Sherbourne. We were so impressed with the welcome, and the feel of the place we decided to stay over and luckily although the website said they were full they had a cancellation so we managed to get a room. We were so lucky! The food was fabulous really beautifully prepared way above what we had assumed we would find in a country pub/hotel. I had the lamb rump and Martin the pork - my goodness it was a treat, we had started with the tempura prawns and sardines which we shared the quality and presentation gave a hint of what was to follow. The wine list is first class something to suit everyone and we found the wines well described and accurate, having opted for a South African red that we didnt recognise but it absolutely matched the description. Such lovely staff so attentive but genuine and not over the top. We felt this really was a 5* experience. The room did not disappoint, super comfy bed oodles of tea's, coffees hot chocolate and biscuits, really well equipped room an a huge walk in shower. Bright white huge bath sheets so rare to get really big towels in hotels these days. The view from the room was the pretty beer garden and countryside. The location of this wonderful hotel/pub makes it an ideal destination when exploring the West Country just up the road from Bruton, Sherbourne and Wincanton and not far from the A 303 if you are heading this way put it on your bucket list of places to stay you will be pleased you did!

Very disappointing We had previously visited the pub and shared a Steak burger which was very tasty. We then decided to return and have a burger each. One was of the same quality experienced previously and the other had a lot of gristle. My wife ordered a vodka and lemonade at the bar and specified how much lemonade she required as most places drown the vodka with lemonade. On reordering another from the table, the tall glass was three quarters full with lemonade. I went to the bar and stated that my wife could not taste the vodka and got charged for another vodka. Last but not least, at the bottom of the bill it states ‘A Discretionary 12.5% Charge’. There was no discretion to this, we were automatically charged on the bill. When we paid the bill the owner never asked us whether we enjoyed the meal or not. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Ordered a burger but was given a steak sandwich. This may sound better, but when you want something to pick up and eat you don't want to encounter meat you can't bite through. Had to remove the meat and cut away the fat and gristle. Stop calling it a burger!

We held a small family function at the Kings arms in November and the experience could not have been better. Everyone was welcoming, friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. The staff helped us with decorating the space for the party and during the afternoon and evening event they were always there, ready to help. We stayed overnight and the rooms were clean and stylish. Plenty of hot water in the shower too. Next morning, some people departed but most stayed for an excellent breakfast. Another great experience. I cannot recommend this wonderful gastro pub and hotel more highly. A truly wonderful experience. Thank you, Tony and your lovely staff !
