Booked this for my mum who absolutely adored the trip to Bovey Castle.
The breakfast and restaurant food was delicious and exceptionally made.
The grounds are spectacular.

I arrived at the hotel around 7 PM and booked two rooms, only to be told they only had one available, and it was fully booked. After much negotiation, the hotel finally vacated one room an hour later. When the manager escorted me to the room, they explained that the agent had booked it on their system, but for some reason, their system had canceled it. The hotel offered no substantial compensation.
The next morning, due to my late check-in, I had to contact the front desk twice to extend my check-out from 11 PM to 12 PM.
To make matters worse, upon check-out, I was told I had to pay the full amount for the second room, which I had already paid for on Ctrip, or I wouldn't be able to leave.
The breakfast was awful, with almost no options. For a room costing nearly 5,000 yuan per night, I have no other options.
I still haven't received the overpaid room fee.
The road to the hotel is narrow, so drive carefully.

Don't stay at this place!
You arrive at this place thinking "wow - this looks lovely" and you leave bitterly disappointed and with a really bad taste in your mouth, figuratively and literally.
Really consider some other options before considering this place.

What a beautiful property. Great hiking trails and many activities to enjoy. Spacious and comfortable room. The Bovey castle has lovely rooms to enjoy refreshments, tea or just relax and enjoy the fire. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful location and surroundings. For the price, I expected it to be quite high end and they’re trying to be but don’t quite make it. Room smelt of baby sick on arrival so that a huge disappointment. I think they really lack good, quality staff but it is in the middle of nowhere so maybe tough to get good people. Service is slow, food took sooo long to come out. Gym is like a dungeon, dirty, dark, poor equipment and too small. Pool area was lovely. Room and views were awesome on the whole.

Amazing winter retreat, cosiest hotel ever. Wonderful courteous staff, delicious food, beautiful grounds for going on a hike around Dartmoor.
We booked one night originally and decided to stay a second.

Luxury stay
We have had a great stay. Dinner lastnight in the Smiths Brasserie was superb and when we retired to the oak bar after we received great service there also. Off to the spa this morning for a detox.
