Motutere Bay Top 10 Holiday Park

We managed to get a pitch right next to the lake that was lovely. The toilets, laundry and kitchen were spotless. Laundry needed 2 dollar coins that were available from reception

On 8th October we arrived at Motutere Top 10 holiday camp site on the shore of Lake Taupo. After arrival and registering in the office, were moved to a powered site near the ablutions blocks. The lady in the office made a comment about $6 but the meaning escaped me. As we wanted to wash our clothes the first thing I did was to go to shower and change. However, on going to the Men’s block the door was barred and there was an instruction sign saying to use the unisex showers at the back of the building. As you entered the shower by walking westerly, the conclusion was that the unisex was on the western side. On looking at that “back” there was a family shower room with coded lock. My conclusion was that the instruction was sloppily worded. So still carrying all my shower gear I walked the 200 m to the office to get the code. The lady then explained that the unisex shower were in what I inferred was the “front” of the block, but she disagreed and said I was wrong. So, walked back the 200 m and had a shower. After, we went to wash our clothes from the previous week’s travelling. In the laundry there were two workers who were changing the machines. They hurriedly got two for us to use. BUT, they were increasing the cost from $4 per wash to $6! Wow, that is a 50% inflationary increase. Gosh, what a steep increase. Thankfully we had enough cash for two washes. But then, I had to walk to the office again and get change for the two $6 dryers Later I went to put the two loads into dryers. On removing one load, it was still dripping as if the centrifugal spinner had not been spinning fast. On returning to remove the clothing, those that had gong in dripping were still not dry. By then the office was closed, we had no more change and so I had to put on my still-not-dry track-suite that I used as pyjamas on the trip! Not nice. However, my wife went to have a shower after dark. She entered the lace, turned on the lights, undressed to start showering and the light went out. So, there she was, in total darkness, but at least was still dry. So she had to dress by feel and returned to our campervan unwashed. It was not a comfortable feeling. So we were: 1. Confused by the closing of the Men’s shower block; 2. Confused at the terminology on the sign outside the Men’s shower block; 3. Upset that the Men’s shower block could not be used; 4. Disturbed by the ridiculously high inflation rate used to raise laundry costs by 50%; 5. Had a damp sleep as the spinning did not dry the washed clothing. 6. Unable to have a shower as the Women’s shower light had a short duration. Therefore, we had the very worst stay at Motutere of all the 30 holiday parks we used in New Zealand in our four-week campervan holiday. We would recommend, strongly, that people think twice about staying in that place.

We found this place to be A pleasant surprise after a very long drive and would recommend it to friends for sure Facilities were clean and maintained . Location was perfect

Taupo top 10 provided excellent service. Clean tidy environment, great indoor and outdoor play area. Safe place for our family to relax and have privacy in our own cabin. Views of lake Taupo were stunning.

Would definitely go back there again...very clean and tidy...highly recommend to other campers
