It is an award-winning youth hostel, but it is still a youth hostel after all. Backpackers who like to meet new friends and want to save money can consider it. The rooms are in good condition and have a unique decoration style, but the sound insulation is really average. If you want a quiet sleep, you can basically ignore it or bring your own earplugs.

I was glad there was free coffee. A cute cat from the neighborhood came to visit us. As for the rooms, some people snore too loud, but that can't be helped. It would have been better if the drawers under the bunk beds had been cleaned. From the second week of June, the rooms were heated and comfortable even in winter. I also appreciated the free parking. Might be full in the summer though.

Best hostel ever! Very kind and friendly staff, with clean rooms and a very good atmosphere. It was a wonderful time there. I can highly recommend every backpacker to stay there. There are a lot of fun activities to explore in and around the hostel :)

Stayed at PCL for 10 weeks between March and May, had an amazing time in the Mount thanks to the hostel. All of the facilities are kept up to a great stabdard and all of the staff are lovely, especially the reception team who are around all day to help with anything you need. Rooms and communal areas are cleaned daily and kept tidy and fresh for everyone. Couldn't recommend highly enough, thanks to the whole team.

Absolutely no faults for service, they where excellent. I can see it has great areas: big kitchen and outdoor area, lounges. And free surf board and bike hire is pretty darn neat. However firstly...the bathrooms where below par: if you are the type of person whom likes their personal space, are not particularly touchy or someone who doesn't like sharing bath water (in a sense), then showering in a cubical where the next doors cubicles dirty water runs into where your standing (and vice versa) is going to horrify you. You'll get splashed by them when trying to dry yourself too. Secondly, the bed was horrible. You know those steel bunks your cousins had in their spare room that squeaked like no tomorrow when you moved and bowed in the middle with anyone lying on it. They where like that, except you had the extra benefit of stained sheets, and a listless duvet. Now granted if we had paid $40 to use the room we would have let these downfalls pass. But as it was a $86 for the double room. This is just not good enough. Especially when you specifically choose to stay here knowing this is an award winning accommodation option.

Stayed here for three nights. Unfortunately I was feeling a bit sick, so I spent most of my time resting. The staff was always really friendly and helpful, and they were pretty chill. The hostel is in a very good location, a short bus drive away from Tauranga centre. Even if you're like me and can't go enjoy the beach and the mountain walks, there's a huge selection of movies and TV-series available to watch. The only downside was the really slow Wi-Fi connection. However, McDonald's and library were right next door, so all the urgent business could be taken care of there. Also, I loved the kitty.

I wasn’t really much of a fan of this hostel that may well be down to personal preference. I think the upstairs lounge area is lovely. However the room I stayed in (19) had 1 tiny window meaning it was hot and got rather smelly. The kitchen was the biggest let down for me the cookers are old (need a lighter to be able to use them) and it felt a bit run down and dirty. I did feel the same about other parts of the hostel. However the location is pretty good close to the beach (stunning) and only a 30min walk to the base of the mountain. Along with free surf boards ($50 deposit) not that I used these. I wouldn’t rush to stay here again but it was okay for the the few nights I was there.

The best hostel in NZ to meet fellow travelers and mates that no doubt will become my friends for life! Stayed for the kiwifruit season, they helped find a job, and transport and i managed to save some money to hit down south with. The mix of people were awesome, staff very passionate about the hostel and making sure people had a great time but stuck to the rules. Will recommend for sure.
