The idea of staying at Telegraph Cove was really exciting, especially as we booked one of the original historic cabin properties (number 6 - The Sharpe House). It is a great location, but a disappointing stay. This is a historic property, so we did not expect a luxury hotel feel, but basic maintenance is clearly lacking and makes the property feel run down rather than historic. Some of these issues may actually be dangerous. Many of the windows have broken sash cords, rather than replace these a block of wood is provided to prop one of th ebedroom windows open. There are two windows in the sitting room, but the blind on one is missing. In the bathroom the light switch has no screws holding it on to the wall. I could continue, but I am sure readers will get the idea. Service was variable, but overall poor: We emailed in advance to ask what the menu was in the two restaurants (it is not published on the website) as our daughter is vegatarian. We never had a reply. One evening the power 'tripped' in our cabin, it was nearly 10pm and reception was closed with no emergency contact available, so I went to the restaurant. By this time it was empty and the door locked, but the staff were sitting next to the window, when I gestured to them they all just sat there shaking their heads at me. After about 5 minutes when it became clear I was not leaving one gentleman came out and when I explained the problem sent somebody along to fix it. On our last morning at abpout 8am as we were preparing to leave we found we had no water. I went outside and asked a passing staff member if they knew what was happening. She told me it had been switched off so work could be done on the public bathrooms. Nobody had told us about this, what if one of us was part way through a shower? I told the lady I was unhappy nobody had told us, "no problem" she shouted over her shoulder as she drove off on her golf buggy. One day I was trying to tell some of the housekeeping team something important. They completely ignored me. When on the third time I said "excuse me" one of them turned around and looked at me without speaking. I continued to tell her the roof of one of the historic cabins was on fire! At that point all hell broke lose as staff appeared from everywhere to save the building. Happily they did, but did anyone thnak me for pointing it out, of course not. This is not a cheap place to stay, but even so wifi is charged for on a per day per device basis, which seems a bit grasping. But this fits with the general sense I get, it feels like he owners are trying to wring every penny they can out of the place in the short term with little regard for reputation of return custom. I would not stay here again, but would instead stay in nearby Port MacNeil and would advise anyone else travelling to the area not to book at the Telegtaph Cove Resort.
