Rorkes Drift Lodge

Rorkes Drift Lodge is a special place. Albeit a rough road to get to the lodge it is well worth it. The food was great and the staff were amazing and nothing was a problem. The only criticism we have was the signage on the main road directing people to the lodge was not well signposted. Nevertheless we found it and it was worth the effort. Thank you

This lodge is buried away in the deep countryside of KwaZulu-Natal. I was very well looked after by the staff. The food was excellent and the accommodation likewise.The farm staff were extraordinarily helpful considering the Foot and Mouth restrictions imposed on the farm. Other than that all I can say is "Go and stay there" as it is most peaceful with wonderful views especially towards Isandlwana.

Liked · The setting was peaceful and beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the pool was fantastic. My wife went horseback riding while I took the battlefield tour with Thulani--both were excellent. Since we had a sedan, we parked at the Rorke's Drift Museum parking lot for the 2 nights we were there. The lot is safe and secure. The lodge provided a driver to take us up their 5 km jeep track to the lodge. The breakfast and suppers were excellent. Disliked · The roads to Rorke's Drift are all gravel roads and are doable with a sedan, but better with a 4 x 4. For us, it was about 50 km on gravel from Ulundi and then about 30 km out to Dundee. It's obviously much slower than a tar road so leave enough time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge . It has a fabulous location with beautiful views to be enjoyed in peace and quiet from the decks . One can be lucky to spot monkeys antelope and kudus that roam the area on the slow ride by Jeep to the lodge or when out horseback riding. The staff were so friendly and obliging and took care of all our needs. They arranged a tour of the battlefields for us with an excellent guide Thulani and accompanied us on a walk in the surrounding bushveld.This is place for those of us who love being in a quiet natural environment .

Firstly, it is important to be aware that this a difficult location to reach. The track to the lodge is only accessible in a decent 4x4 - and then very slowly and carefully!! However, when you make it the location is stunning. It is essentially a farm but with guest lodges. However the service we got from the staff was very friendly and helpful. And the food was fantastic. The rooms were a little tired and in need of some TLC. And the staff would probably benefit from a more experienced hospitality manager to help them develop this accommodation. But if you like quirky and off the beaten track this is for you.

The Hotel appeared to be closed, The gates were locked and there was no apparent traffic on the access road judging from tire marks and the track itself was in poor condition. Signage from the road was in poor condition
