Hotel Drei Berge

Just wonderful! Accommodating staff . . . Alex was particularly helpful and made our stay outstanding. Located centrally in Murren, right in the heart of the activities going on in this small Swiss Alpine town. 100% recommend to anyone . . . my wife and I had zero complaints!

The food was underseasoned and over priced. We found it a shame that the authentic and charming Swiss character of the previous hotel has been replaced by something a little garish. Given the perfect location, this hotel / restaurant has great potential, however they need to focus more on getting the fundamentals right, such as good quality cuisine.

While I understand the business decisions hotels need to make, it was disappointing to have my reservation canceled just because they preferred to sell a longer stay. It would have been more considerate to honor the original booking, especially considering my prior commitment. This would never have happened under the previous managemet by Othmar, exactly like the terrible Restaurant Review mentioned. Avoid if you can!

Filled with anticipation, we stepped into the recently opened restaurant at the "Drei Berge Hotel." A promising alternative for Mürren, or so we thought. The restaurant was bustling, and we were forewarned about potential delays in the kitchen. After a seemingly tolerable hour of waiting, we received portions of our order. However, frustration set in as we discovered significant omissions – two entire menus and various side dishes. Despite alerting the staff, they kept us waiting for an additional 25 minutes and only brought one menu, still missing the second and another side dish. Unfortunately, the kitchen had shut down by then. While they comped two menus, we departed with empty stomachs. A letdown that starkly contrasted the owner's grand promises.

We stayed at the Drei Berge in Murren for 4 nights. We loved the experience. The room was comfortable and cozy with the feeling of being in the mountains expressed in the room decor. The view out the window of the mountains was spectacular and I could never get enough of seeing it. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great. I particularly liked the Swiss cheeses, breads, jams, teas and coffees and the device which allowed you to make your own hard boiled eggs. The hotel was a great base to explore the region.

The review is for the restaurant only. This was easily our worst dinner during a two week visit to Germany and Switzerland. It is priced as a high end restaurant but the food is embarrassingly bad. I had the Udon Noodle bowl with Tempura Shrimp and it was so bad. It was identical to a Campbell's beef noodle soup with soft noodles. I have eaten many Udon Noodle bowls and this was by far the worst. Knew the "chef" was Japanese so assumed he would know what a Udon bowl should taste like. My wife had the steak and it was somewhat tolerable but cost 50 francs for the small un-exceptional and tough piece of meat. A woman at an adjoining table hated her meal also and even rejected an offer for replacement since she assumed they couldn't possibly produce anything worth eating. They are clearly riding on the reputation of the prior owner. DO NOT eat here. So many better options in Murren. Unfortunately Rick Steves recommended the prior restaurant with different owners creating confusion for us. The new owner appears to be significantly inferior.

The newly renovated Drei Berge Hotel is a charming, sleek boutique hotel with just amazing views. The new owner has artfully decorated the interior in rich colors with a playful feel. The staff is efficient and welcoming. The cleanliness is impeccable. And the food! An expert Chef was hired and he has crafted a varied and delectable menu. We stayed 5 nights and couldn’t try everything we wanted to, which is unusual for us. This is a top notch establishment. If it had an elevator it would be 4 stars for sure. Oh and the sheets and towels were lovely too. And the VIEWS!

My husband and I booked a corner room with balcony and we had an exquisite view of the Jungfrau. We had a sitting room with a refrigerator and desk and a separate bedroom. There is lots of closet space and unlike other hotels, we had plenty of outlets to charge our electronics. The couple who run the hotel are warm and welcoming. The lobby is cozy and the location is central to all in Murren. There is also laundry right next door for 5 CHF per load (detergent is provided in the machine). Breakfast was ample and a good start to the day. There’s fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs, muesli and an assortment of breads with local butter and several choices of jam. Definitely try the honey with herbs to go with your cheese. All this with a nice cappuccino got us fueled to hike all the lovely trails in the vicinity. For dinner, I tried the rosti which was delicious while my husband had the chicken piccata. Both were tasty. All in all, a great choice for our vacation!

The restaurant is worth a detour, each dish carefully thought through for consistency. Rösti with burgers is perhaps just one step too far, especially since the chips were close to perfection, but forgivable as a sop to local tastes. Impeccable service and welcome.
