Wentworth by the Sea

We booked one night stay at the Wentworth by the Sea. We also booked a deep tissue massage. The spa was very dirty - lots of hair everywhere, the trash cans were overflowing, there were no robes/towels/or sandals stocked in the locker room. The actual massage was OK but the spa needs a deep cleaning and some maintenance as well. The outdoor hot tub patio has pieces falling apart. The actual hotel room was nice but the sheets are like sand paper and the bathroom floors (ours were not heated) were incredibly cold! The food at Salt has gone way downhill. We ate lunch there but the pizza crust was doughy and under cooked and the chicken on the salad was overcooked. We ended up cancelling our dinner res and going to town at Surf for good meal. We also did not order room service breakfast, instead we woke up early and left. This hotel has gone downhill and I hope they make some changes. We will not be going back anytime soon!

This classic New England hotel is a treasure. From first contact to check out everything was first class. Be sure to reserve a room with a great water view. Our room was spacious, had spotless linens, a comfy bed, a great bathroom with walk in shower, a small desk, and a seating area with chairs for enjoying the lovely view. The restaurant & bar are beautiful and welcoming. The views are amazing. Make a reservation and treat yourself to incredible service, delicious food and great drinks. The Wentworth is worth a visit, it's an experience you will always remember!

Feb 24 - Cancellation policy is ridiculous After I booked and got charged immediately they would not refund or reschedule a booking due to an emergency. Instead I had to pay in full Will never go there and advise others against it Be aware - I have not experienced anything like this anywhere else.

This is a beautiful hotel. We had a room with a water view. I don’t think it was worth the extra money. The room itself was lovely, the bathroom has heated floors that was awesome. Where it falls short is on the details. You spend 300.00 a night you should not have issues. The safe in the room did not work. The fitness center the Pelaton bike settings to adjust were broken the pedals did not have a cage or clip. Kids where in the fitness room. We left for the day to explore Portsmouth. Our room was cleaned and bed was made, however we enjoyed wine the night before and used the glasses that where in the room. The glasses still had the wine residue in them, they did not replace or clean the glasses. Seriously it was just these little things that added up. The front desk person was a bit rude when I had to leave the fitness room to let them know the Pelaton is not useable because the adjustment knob is broken. Overall nice hotel but dirty glasses, broken fitness equipment and the messed up reservation at SALT (separate review on that one) restaurant bring the score way down for me.

A plus! I have stayed at this property many times when it was under the Marriott umbrella and was interested to see how it was now that it is under the Opal umbrella. I was very impressed. The comunication from the begining was exceptional. I booked a standard room and also made reservations at Salt for the evening. I checked in a little after 4 pm and told the front desk that I had stayed at the property many times and always enjoyed the Marriott Titatium upgrade. The front desk person took my que and looked at possible upgrades and BOOM! Upgrade was forthcoming and a great upgrade for sure! Down to the Marina suites for me in a 2 bedroom townhouse. So very nice! The hotel had sent a chocolate arrangment and a bottle of Champange to my origianl room (Birthday gift). They sent me a text and asked how my check in experience was and I alerted them that I got an upgrade. They quickly brought the Chocolate and Champange down the Marina location. Everyone we dealt with on property was very professional and seemed well trained. I look forward to returning and reducing my level of upgrade expectations. :-)

We enjoyed the Marina suite for 5 nights, and walking the wharf & marina boardwalk through the neighbouring community and via hotel paths back full circle to the Inn and our suites. Room service was good.

Rooms/beds no longer have comforter/duvet - just a VERY THIN cotton blanket & a broken shade 🤪. Spa was VERY NOISY, continuously, during facial & at outside Spa hot tub & dirty mugs right next to clean ones (no designated place to put dirty mugs & dishes, which sat for hours). Hotel indoor pool is RIGHT next to Spa so you easily hear kids screaming non-stop (they need some sound-proofing to be completed/added!). I've been to this location a few times now but it's actually gone "downhill" since Opal took over. This was a spa getaway for my daughter & me (& a first break from my challenging son). I've been to many spas but never one SO LOUD 😩 My daughter & I could hear kids screaming during our entire one hour facial - which is quite expensive compared to other hotels and day spas - NOT a relaxing experience!! A positive is that the staff is extremely friendly, which we appreciate (although quite talkative during treatment. If someone talks to me, I'll talk back as not to be rude but it does take away from a "relaxing" experience). The body "Wrap" needs to be re-defined on website. It's not a wrap at all - just a thin sheet & a lightly warmed blanket over you 🥴 I got a light "coating" of oil and then lotion on my legs. I did tell Aesthetician that she could increase pressure (since it was 0%) but she didn't. The 5ish minute pressure point facial was best part but certainly not at all worth $228. I would never do the "Wrap" again. Also, before our stay, once I FINALLY got ahold of someone working at Spa after weeks of calling, I tried to book the Salt Room and lady didn't even inform me that it wasn't ready yet - probably because they are already showing it on their website (see photo) - so I assumed it was open and I chose this spa for my daughter for the Salt room because she has breathing problems. Thankfully Debbie at reception and other wonderful staff were caring & sincere! Not sure we'd do spa again though, especially due to noise. Also took me 10 minutes to find someone to get one clean mug (for water) on our first day at Spa. Other Spa guest on our second day drank from dirty mug out of confusion - yuck. She told me this after-the-fact... I told her just to take another Mug I found for her. Lastly, the shade in our hotel room was broken upon arrival so we couldn't enjoy the nice view. I also called front desk AND housekeeping to get heavier blankets or a comforter and they didn't even have ONE comforter to provide us!!?? We didn't sleep that well during our stay, unfortunately. Overall, not the experience we had hoped for... sadly, better when it was a Marriott!! We visit Florida A LOT... Not sure we'd try any other Opal properties now, with many other great choices/hotel brands 😧

No longer a Marriott property and has gone downhill. I usually come up a few times a year and found it to be a good winter escape but was very disappointed in my visit this week. The outdoor adult hot tub is now for spa guests only. This is a huge disappointment for couples and adults use to this amenity. The indoor hot tub is crowded with screaming kids. Also, I miss the hot breakfast buffet. Not sure I'II be returning to my old "go-to" escape. Likely will try out their competition next time. Made me second guess any Opal property.

We loved it the first time we came almost 10 years ago and still do today! A very special place away from the city and yet only 5-10 minutes to Portsmouth. Always been very well received by the staff here and the views are amazing. Been taking photos from the place every time we come and still able to get great shots as you can see from the photos.
