Very disappointed that the staff were very unfriendly and made me feel quite unwelcome. Called ahead to politely see if the room was ready and said I was aware it was 3pm check in but just wanted to check as we were about to pass by so could drop off bags if so- and the man on the phone was very abrupt and just replied with 'it's 3pm'. That was it ! Not even a- we look forward to seeing you later or anything. Check in was much the same. No smile from anyone. Dinner - the man serving was so miserable - again not a smile throughout the whole meal. The room was nice - although bed not big enough for us. Felt quite tight. And the room was definitely big enough for a super king. The lady serving breakfast was lovely though. The only friendly person we encountered. Breakfast itself wasn't great- sour dough does not make good toast ! It's so crunchy it made my jaw hurt! A nice home made loaf of bread would make much better toast. Serving 2 small slices of crunchy sour dough toast on a huge wooden board is rather overkill! There was nothing suitable for children. They could really do with serving something more child friendly like offering some cereal. Especially as the 'toast' was not edible for even adult teeth let alone children's. Perhaps they think children are not welcome at this hotel and that's why they were unfriendly to us. Our children are very well behaved. We've taken the children to many hotels including the four seasons for afternoon tea- if they can manage to accommodate families there, then I don't see why the Royal oak can't. A shame.

This little country hotel is absolutely wonderful. The rooms are comfortable, food is excellent and the service is exceptional. I would stay here any opportunity I have. I have been visiting for the last 30 years and seen many changes, all excellent.

Had a really lovely dinner, sleep and breakfast here. The food is excellent, the rooms are well appointed, spotless and a good size with quality fixtures and furnishings. Menu was attractive and everything we ate was superbly cooked. AND the service was excellent at both dinner and breakfast which, where we live in SW London, is a real rarity. Will be back :)

I booked for me and my partner to have a night away, i couldn’t of had a better experience! It felt like no request was a problem and staff were so happy, friendly and attentive. As for the setting, the room was luxurious and didn’t miss any details! Breakfast in the orangery was a nice juxtaposition from our cosy dinner by the fire the night before. This place has bucketfuls of character& staff who clearly have a lot of experience. Thank you, we will be back!

A brilliant country inn and hotel. Our room had access to its own garden area through patio doors which with a dog was a superb feature. Sitting outside drinking a few wines/beers late at night was great given the 30c heat. Lovely room and the breakfasts were everything you could ask of a full english. Friendly, knowledgeable staff made for a very pleasant stay. Wonderful village vibe with the local shop and cafe very nice and got to know them during the four days we stayed there. Highly recommended.

What a lovely place to stay in the countryside. The rooms were very spacious and well equipped and beds very comfortable. Having a breakfast included was a bonus as the meals in the restaurant were fantastic. It’s was a busy day due to the local fete but checking in was a breeze as staff were friendly and went out of their way to make sure the process went smooth. Had it not been the fete weekend I would imagine it would be very peaceful but this weekend the crow was a little rowdy but not unpleasant. Excellent stay in the country.

We booked this place for a one night stay just before we started a road trip to the UK from Portugal. So very glad we did as it is a lovely pub/ hotel with nice rooms and excellent service. The food was fantastic and. we were recommended several dishes by the restaurant manager and none of them disappointed. Even the pizza we had for lunch was first class and one of the best we’d had….ever!! Highly recommended!

What a lovely pub! The staff were so friendly and efficient, made us feel so welcome and let us check in to our room (a lovely little cottage with an outside area) early so we could relax and get ready for the wedding we were attending. So much nicer than most hotels I have stayed in. Thanks to you all
