The Rock Inn

We had a lovely stay in this 200 year old inn. It’s very traditional and run with real care. The host and team are very friendly and helpful. We didn’t meet the chef, but hats off to them, the food is gorgeous, quality ingredients, beautiful cooked. We had the beamed balcony room with french doors and a lovely view. Very comfortable bed. Nice big bathroom, bath and shower. The hotel is fairly remote but close to Haytor and walking routes. It’s peaceful and in lovely surroundings. We would highly recommend a stay here. Wonderful short break. Perfect if you don’t want the “corporate “ feel to your accommodation. Food at the restaurant was outstanding and the staff are really helpful, going above and beyond to make sure everything was good for us. Would certainly recommend.

Perfect for couples stay in dartmoor Amazing stay. Great location. Comfy beds, very clean and organised, friendly staff for whom nothing seemed too much. Great history, lovely beer garden, well stocked bar, nice breakfast including a vegetarian breakfast.

Just spent a night at the Rock Inn Haytor Super service great attention to detail from Simon and all the team. Cosy comfortable room with nice en-suite bathroom. Dining room candle light and nice roaring fire. Excellent food and wine. Will certainly recommend to anyone visiting Dartmoor. Philip & Francine

Friendly welcome from the bar staff, comfortable, generally well appointed room ( the shower a bit small, as often happens with retrofits, but plenty of hot water), beautifully crisp linen. Good breakfast with some local produce, minimal conversation from breakfast staff - for me at least, they were very chatty with the other guests!

What a wonderful evening , we enjoyed some of the best food we have ever had , simple food ,good produce ,clearly cooked with skill and knowledge , I have to say there is normally something I have a moan about, but not this time .We arrived to the welcome of a candlelight entrance inviting us in with the comforting smell of log fires ,the staff were friendly and attentive we were seated at our table by the bar in front of the log fire which was perfect , the staff were very attuned noticing when a candle had turned out and that we needed more water the attention was great but not stifling , just right . The service was efficient we didn’t seem to be waiting very long between courses . The food was second to none with amazing flavours , the lamb on a sourdough crumpet starter was to die for , so succulent with immense flavour absolutely 5star , my husband had the chicken supreme with fondant potato which I soon wished I had ordered it was melt in the mouth delicious and the flavour balance was on point , I had the gnocchi with blue cheese and butternut squash which was also on another level . We don’t normally have puddings but as the other courses were so good we couldn’t resist and we were not disappointed the banana tart with home made icecream was truly delicious and the parfait with pear sorbet was so good . The price was reflective of the quality and fair we didn’t think twice about paying the service charge which we normally begrudge due to there always being some little niggles . The ambiance was relaxed but professional , the pub retained all its character and charm without feeling dated or musty and stuck in the past . There’s no doubt we will return soon and we will be recommending to all our friends and family .
