ArcoSodi Hotel Boutique

BE AWARE. The hotel staff robbed our room and stole about 2000 US dollars cash and our US passports. We found out as we were about to check out and travel to another state. We called the police who were expectedly useless! A security camera had a recorded all movements during our stay. We had to plead with the staff to look at the recording which showed that only the cleaning staff entered the room in our absence. The hotel manager was not on the premises declined to speak with us and come to deal with the crime situation. He only showed up when the police came and refused to even acknowledge the problem or even speak to us. We were about to lose our flights and our hotel reservations in the next city had we stayed to pursue any resolution with the hotel. Worst part of this is is that this property felt very secure with a gated security door that is monitored 24/7. Instead, we were robbed by the staff we trusted with our safety and the safety of our belongings. The manager of the hotel should have investigated and found the thief on his team. Instead he refused to even show his face at the hotel. We asked to speak with the hotel owners but the staff refused to provide the contact info. Owners will hopefully read this and take corrective measures to ensure no other guest are violated and no more crimes committed. At a minimum they should refund cost of our stay. The staff, except for the manager and the thief, were super kind and just wonderful, especially Mitzi.

We really enjoyed our stay at the ArcoSodi. The hotel is about 5 or 6 blocks from the historic center of Oaxaca City. To me this is a plus as it is much more quiet and tranquil when you want to escape the city. The hotel has the added benefit of being close to the Merced Market which I liked better for eating than the 20 de Noviembre market in the center. The rooms were comfortable and the inner courtyard was great for enjoying the included breakfast and for sharing a drink in the afternoon. What I really enjoyed the most was the staff. The staff really made us feel welcome and went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. I would definitely return to the ArcoSodi again on my next visit to Oaxaca. It should be better as the hotel is in the process of adding more suites and a new rooftop bar. My only two issues were: 1) the locks on the doors were a bit awkward and according to the owner will be replaced and 2) one time the water ran out while I was taking a shower although my spouse went to the front desk and got it going again.

I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Oaxaca City except maybe if you pay multiple times more! The staff was extremely helpful: when we wanted unsweetened Greek yogurt Alfredo at the front desk sent a moto to a supermarket to get what we wanted. When I wanted to buy a special mescal, they have several to taste and a free one as a welcome!, he had someone deliver what I wanted in no time. There is a communal refrigerator and freezer at the bar perfectly adequate for the 5 or 6 rooms. Alfredo writes your room name on each item in this unit. The room was perfect for us with a queen bed, coffee maker, etc. The bathroom was very modern, clean, functional with the softest towels we had anywhere except at home. There is a garden and a bar area where one can sit. The internet is very good! The location is very central, walking distance to every attraction in the city center. The street can get busy during the day and parking can be an issue during the day - also for taxis that need to stop to pick you up.
