The young lady on Check-in about 16:20 on Friday 28 April was not that helpful when I asked for a recommended local restaurant OR for a local town tourist map. She said that the tourist office should be able to supply both; but by the time that we finally got down to there they were shut. We then struggled to find an evening dining option back towards the Hotel. The tourist office the following day was then helpful. Why cannot the Hotel collect some English or German, etc tourist maps to have for their guests? Isn’t hospitality meant to be a service industry? The Hotel has thus lost a star rating because of this indifference to me. The "Superior" room that we were in D2/11 was clean but basic and showing its age. No kitchen sink plug, no tea towel, a very very, basic “kitchenette”, no shower soap and at 22m2 not much room for 2 adults with two large suitcases. Our double bed had two single bottom bottom sheets fitted too. Why? Why the fridges are often not turned on in such basic accommodation choices when guests arrive, makes it hard for me to manage my travel medications that need to be kept chilled. We appreciated the firm bed mattress and the firmer pillows; but the continental quilts supplied were too thick and hot for late April. And that is without having any room heating on. There is a cooling only air con unit for summer use. Not sure if the unsecured smoke detector sitting on top of a cupboard was functional? Why not secure it to the ceiling as the manufacturer would require? The included breakfast was ok but the cooked eggs and sausages were not being kept even remotely warm in the serving unit. Why? My web browser flagged that the hotel’s wi-fi was not using the safest technology; so I did not connect to it but used my mobile phone data instead. Free on site car parking, though the roadway access gate appeared to be left open 24 hours. The stay is close to the Old Town, which is down the hill. Thus an uphill walk at the end of the day. 3 stars thus is my rating with maybe 3.5 stars because of the latter two points. Not sure how this place has previously had such higher ratings eg *********** = 9/10.
