Dear Hyatt Customer Service,
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and concern regarding an incident that took place upon checking out from Hyatt Regency Perth on 1 July.
While at the front desk, I was astounded when the staff member asked me to reveal the masked 4 digits of the card that I used for the security bond. I firmly believe that there is a reason behind the masking of credit card digits – to protect the consumer against fraud and unauthorized copying of card information. I explained this to the staff member and mentioned that if my card information gets compromised, it would cost me fifty dollars to have it replaced.
Much to my dismay, the staff member then inquired about my country of origin. This question felt irrelevant and inappropriate in the context of the ongoing discussion about payment security. It felt as if my concerns were being dismissed, and this left me feeling insulted and agitated.
After some back-and-forth, the staff member reluctantly processed the refund for my deposit bond. I used Apple Pay to securely receive the refund without disclosing any card information.
It is extremely disheartening that such an incident occurred at a reputed establishment like Hyatt. With the rise in cybercrimes and hacking, it is crucial for individuals to be vigilant in safeguarding their sensitive information. It is expected that a hotel of your stature would not only understand this but also ensure that your staff is trained to handle such situations with professionalism and respect for customer privacy.
The questioning about my country of origin was particularly disturbing as it was not only irrelevant but also created an atmosphere of discrimination. It is crucial for customer-facing staff to be trained on cultural sensitivity and respect.
I would like to request that you look into this matter and take necessary actions to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. It would also be greatly appreciated if you could provide me with feedback on the steps taken to rectify this situation.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
