Hotel Astor

The bed is not comfortable.

The perfect location. I left Perugia early in the morning and the location of the hotel was just perfect for me. The train station is 100 meters across the street. But this is not the only advantage. Nearby is a cheap fast food Chicken Flavor, working late. There is a pharmacy on the ground floor (it did not work in the evening). The man at the reception was all courtesy. The name of the hotel suits him. There is something conservative here. The room is simple. The design of the 80s. But it doesn't spoil it.

A number of years since we had stayed here and there have been many changes and not for the better. Yes the room are very clean and the towels sweet smelling but the bathrooms and rooms are very dated. The entrance to the hotel has many people just hanging around and you don’t feel safe. Obviously new ownership and new staff and none of them have the necessary friendliness and welcoming attitude. One or two of them try but you never feel comfortable. You are expected to leave the key at the desk if you go out and this just increases the unpleasant interaction. The building is very noisy and you can clearly hear those in neighbouring rooms. The noise level is probably increased by the fact that parts of the building have permanent tenants/guests. Didn’t have the €5 breakfast as it looked very sad. Wifi is poor and keeps dropping off. We arrived early and were allowed to leave luggage which is helpful but it wasn’t put in a secure area. To set the tone a guest walked out as we were at the front desk at 9am. He had no luggage and collected his receipt and left. He was followed minutes later by his ‘friend’ and she too had no luggage. Say no more. Location is good by the station but we wouldn’t stay there again.
