A440 in Tuscany

hotel well located close to the center of Pienze (by car), with a good room, and good breakfast, the only negative point we put in relation to the "swimming pool" which is actually a lake with mud, we knew this, and we thought that if it were Transformed into a standard pool it would be a much more enjoyable experience, we would have stayed longer enjoying the view.

We chose the A440 because it is in the beautiful Val d' Orca. It is important to know how to get to the hotel. Our satnav suggested a route that is not drivable. The route is described on the website and that is really the only possible way to get to the hotel by car. At the church, continue straight on onto the unpaved "road" and after a few hundred meters turn right and go slightly uphill to the hotel. But with our really big car we got to the hotel without any problems - you just have to take a little time (which you should do here anyway). By the way, on foot you can get to Pienza through a small forest on a short path. The somewhat arduous path to the hotel also shows you straight away that the hotel is very quiet. We had a really wonderful room on the ground floor with an exit to a small garden. There is only room for a small table and two chairs, but the plants in the garden and in front of it are beautifully laid out and very lush. There are rose bushes that are about 150 cm high. The whole garden smells of the many different plants. We always enjoyed staying here. In front of the hotel grounds there is a large field with many olive trees and behind the hotel there is a hill and a forest. You can start walking into the Tuscan countryside directly from the hotel. There are many different paths and destinations. The hotel has a pool that is not heated. In May - when we were there - it was still a very cold experience, but in summer it is certainly very refreshing. There are many loungers by the pool. Every guest is sure to find a place here. The pool is very naturally designed and the grounds look very beautiful. The hotel offers breakfast. The selection is manageable but there is something for every taste and if, like me, you like pecorino or a fried egg, this wish will also be fulfilled. Breakfast was always the perfect start to the day for us. At lunchtime you can have a little something in the small restaurant, but as we were always out and about we didn't take advantage of this. In the evening the restaurant offers a very manageable menu. The dishes on offer are very good and individual wishes are also taken into account here. The service is excellent. No matter who you meet, you are greeted in a friendly manner and every request is dealt with and fulfilled. The room is very clean. The room is quite small but everything is very well laid out and it was completely sufficient for us. For the hot time of the year, there is also air conditioning in the room and the windows and patio door have very good mosquito nets. There is a TV, with I think a German channel (we hardly used it) and in order not to lose touch with the world, there is free WiFi that really always worked and was also sufficient for Netflix.
