Mediceo 42

Don’t book this place - it’s not a hotel it’s a stairway in a block of flats. They refuse to check you in if you arrive after 7pm. Appalling customer service and rudeness experienced They won’t give a refund and their attitude is a disgrace - AVOID

We stayed here in October. Our room was overlooking the rooftops of Pisa toward the surrounding mountains. The building is on the riverside and close to 3 piazzas serving drinks and food and lots of Italian atmosphere within 5 minutes walk. Pisa is quite small so easy to navigate on foot from this lovely, clean and well equipped room with secure access, programmable safe for belongings and a lift to the 5th floor above the beautiful streets. Shutters and blind keep it dark at night and you can open the window wide to enjoy the lovely air. Air conditioning is provided and the shower room is clean tidy and with good heat and water pressure. The bed was very comfy and easy to sleep in after our days of walking the city. Vito who looks after the rooms was a real gentleman. He has good English and is amenable and gracious and his recommendations for food are good. Tana is very busy because it is good, Vineria Di Piazza was lovely - definitely recommend there, great vibe around 10:30pm in the square after your meal. We would go and enjoy Vito’s hospitality again. This room was not only great for the price but perfectly situated for anything you want to do in Pisa. Book and enjoy.

I will admit that when I booked Mediceo 42, I didn't realise it was a private rental apartment rather than a traditional hotel - *********** does not clarify this. However, the host was very communicative and provided clear instructions before our arrival, including an online check-in portal and details on finding and accessing the apartment. It's true that, from the exterior, it's not easy to locate and, without the instructions, would be almost impossible. Having provided the host with our arrival time, we were let in immediately and, after checking our documents, shown to a lovely spacious and modern apartment room. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom superb, and lovely, if limited, views of the Pisa skyline and surrounding hills. The host also provided free bottled water via the communal kitchen fridge, which was a lovely touch, especially given the high temperatures during our stay. The location was one of the highlights of our stay: 10 minutes north of Pisa Centrale train station, on the river's north bank, and 10-15 minutes south of the main tourist attractions (i.e. the Leaning Tower). A stone's throw west, we found a lovely little square with a great cocktail bar (Spritzmania) serving lovely happy hour drinks with bruschetta, bread and mini pizza bites. My only criticism would be that the air-conditioning unit was very noisy and, whether for this reason alone or a combination of factors, I slept pretty poorly both nights we were there.

Everything was wonderful, very modern and lovely. Only issue was waiting to be let in for check in, would advise to be there when guest arrive. Although May have been a one time thing as the rest of the stay was lovely. Staff were very helpful though. Shower was amazing and bed really comfy, with amazing views of Pisa!
