The second time I went, it was so beautiful. There is a paradise next to the hotel, and there are various passages to go there. The hotel itself is fun, an all-inclusive hotel with lots of restaurants. The only downside is that the location is a bit windy and the hotel has a good location for snorkeling, but it depends on luck. The facilities are very good, and it is basically 200 pesos a person from the airport.

I’ve stayed in Cancun many times. With that being said, I haven’t experienced an all-inclusive hotel that truly goes above and beyond in every single aspect until my stay at Occidental. The scenery was beautiful everywhere you went. Staff was incredible and extremely friendly. Service was truly top notch everywhere we went. Housekeeping was quick to clean the room while we were gone for breakfast. Everybody was super helpful. They also had a hospitality room which was super useful on our last day. They let you keep your wristband on so you can enjoy the resort and food/amenities until you leave. We added the unlimited xcaret experience to our package and could not recommend it enough. Hotel was a 2 minute walk from the park entrance which was super helpful! My favorite part of the trip was all of the beautiful animals that we saw while we were by the beach, walking back to our room, and in the lobby. I loved how they were just roaming around. I’ve now stayed at Barceló hotels in Cabo and Playa del Carmen and I can confidently say they are the best around.

Absolutely the worst hotel experience of my life. Terrible delayed checkin by 4-5 hours. Employee strike going on rthat day and we coul;d not even drive out of the resort as the exits were blocked. Staff was snotty, rude and obviously used to unsatisfied guests. When we finally were shown to our room it was dirty, old, in desperate need of a tear down and totally unacceptable. After spending the first week of our trip in playa del carmen, this resort which for some unknown reason has the word "luxury" in its name was nothing about luxury whatsoever. Signing up for dinner reservations there was almost no availability in the restaurants we wanted, signing up for tours was an hours long experience. Loved the area. We wrote a review directly to management and never received so much as a courtest acknowledgement. Would never recommend this resort to anyone.

The property had a very terrible sewer smell the 3 days we were there. The lighting at night was awful and you couldn’t see anything. The “VIP” dining area took FOREVER to get us our drinks/food. And the maps are terrible/lack of signs for such a HUGE place. The food wasn’t good. BUT it was a BEAUTIFUL resort, we loved the beach & pools and our bed was very comfortable and loved the room!
