I feel that Montpelier is a place where I leave all my stresses and worries behind and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, the pool and beach and most of all -- the wonderful staff. For me, it is a great place to do nothing -- swim, read, take a walk, have a great meal or cocktail (thanks Kaddy!) We stayed in a Plantation Room with a gorgeous view of the foothills of Nevis and the soothing blue of the Caribbean sea. We did get and and about of Nevis which is a great island to explore but I always enjoyed returning with a refreshing dip in the pool and the soothing cooling breezes. If you are craving peace, relaxation and an escape from a busy world, you will enjoy Montpelier.

After so many good reviews I feel it is my obligation to add some not too biased pros and cons Positive: - The premises and main area and pool are lovely and lush green. I suspect this first impression is the main reason for some 5 star reviews - The owner is here sometimes to chat with quests. The manager is very friendly. The guys at the bar, beach and garden are fun - The room size is decent (though the rooms are quite tired and towels/sheets stained) - The food is more or less OK (unless you are spoiled by good big city chefs) Negative: - This is not a luxury hotel. Please do not expect a Four Seasons experience. You get what you pay for - The beach is a 20 minutes drive from the hotel and it is very basic, so be warned - The staff is only polite and friendly until something breaks. Do not expect help and solutions if something does not work - Card payments do not work properly. Settle your bill the night before checking out so that you do not miss transfer to the airport - No electricity from time to time I hope this helps. As always, managing expectations is key. The trouble with this place is that one starts their experience with the beautiful premises and ends with dripping shower and indifferent farewell at reception…
Response from Property: Dear Ilya, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We understand that the issue with your credit card was an unexpected and stressful situation. As I mentioned to you while you were here, this matter was unfortunately beyond our control. We genuinely regret that it impacted the final hours of your visit. We appreciate your understanding. Warm regards, Abisola Abiola

We were lucky enough to have just returned from a five night stay at the gorgeous Montpelier resort, celebrating our one year anniversary. Right from the start, Sade and Asheena made sure we didn’t have to worry about being delayed a few days because of a storm in Miami, they pushed back our reservation no problem and were so accommodating. From the moment we finally arrived after a long journey, we were greeted by Mandy, who swept us into our stunning Garden suite, and into the sugar mill for a delicious and private anniversary dinner. Truly a magical experience from the start. Every person at Montpelier, from the lovely women at breakfast to the bartenders in the evening, make you feel so welcome and grateful. Abby, the general manager, goes above and beyond in every way and made sure our stay was perfect down to the last detail. On the night of our true anniversary, Asheena, Mandy, and Sade spent hours setting up a surprise for my wife while we were out to dinner; a beautiful candlelight message and rose petal display in our room, complete with cold champagne. If you pictured a fairytale tropical paradise, walk around Montpelier as the sun goes down and the landscape twinkles around you. A dream come true in every way. My wife and I are not organized people, yet every morning we would on a whim decide we wanted to do some excursion and within minutes a taxi was ready and an experience was booked by someone at the front desk. Truly everyone went beyond anything we’ve experienced traveling anywhere in the world. Now on to Champs, the taxi service who took us everywhere (he doesn’t have his own google review) Experiencing Nevis to the fullest was made possible with Champs as our trusted friend and taxi guide. He was the kindest, most wonderful person to meet and made our stay so special. We believe he personifies everything wonderful about this incredible island. He even came to our rescue when my wife fell ill at dinner one night. We miss him already and look forward to coming back and having the privilege of being driven by him.

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Staff are lovely and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. Cottages are spacious and grounds are stunning. Seeing families of monkeys playing in the sun was a highlight first me. Food tasty and fairly priced. Hope to stay again and for longer next time

From the moment you stepped your feet onto this property you know you’re somewhere special. I believe most everything has been said and so many of the reviews that have been posted. I will say special as it is so are the people that work there they truly go above and beyond to make your experience special they cannot do enough for you. Unfortunately, I only had two days there. Next time I will stay more. It was super fantastic. I’ve taken a lot of pictures other guest for saying they weren’t gonna tell anybody about how wonderful this place is, but I’m here to tell y’all go go go.

This is hands down the most wonderful place to stay. So peaceful, tranquil and serene. The Staff are by far the most friendly we have ever come across on a holiday. There is wildlife in abundance and the grounds are breathtaking. Muffin, the Owner is pure class and mingles with everyone and treats you as though you are friend rather than a patron. The food is to die for! You will not want to leave this little jewel!

I had the pleasure of having a very petite young lady serve us she paid great attention to detail she was friendly. She recommended the lamb and crispy pork belly which was absolutely delicious. She is a true gem unfortunately I didn’t get her name my husband and I look forward to seeing her in November on our second trip.

Tranquility, charm and caring are what makes Montpelier so wonderful. Nestled in the lush hills of Nevis, Montpelier is a gardener’s dream. It also is steeped in history. The staff are terrific and work hard to ensure all goes well. We stayed in a Plantation Room which is simply and tastefully furnished. I loved hanging out by the pool where I didn’t feel guilty about being lazy. Dining options are excellent and now a barbecue lunch is offered at Montpelier’s beach property. Quiet luxury at its best!

What a lovely place this is to spend a few days doing mostly nothing! From the friendly welcome to the sad goodbye we had a wonderful 4 days. The rooms are large, private and simple, with everything you need- clean and cool. Ours had a great view over the gardens to the distant sea from our private terrace. Mango trees attracted the monkeys, who add some entertainment but will not bother you. You need to be aware that this lush environment attracts all kinds of fairly noisy nightlife so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise! Interestingly we never got bitten by mosquitos- a real bonus! The pool is excellent, with a restaurant for lunch and the bar is run efficiently by Kaddy, who will make sure you know your reggae music before you leave ;-) Despite being a 25 minute drive from their private beach it is very much worth the journey and to make a day of it, with great food from the hotel off the BBQ, clear sea and a lovely quiet location. Food is excellent, with a choice of two restaurants- the 'Restaurant 750' menu is sophisticated and varied- we enjoyed two lovely dinners there, with cocktails and canapés to start in the comfortable lounge. We had a last night meal in the old mill- 'Mill Prive' - a different menu and an interesting place to dine. Breakfast is served on a separate terrace- really varied and again, great food served by the lovely Tasha and Leslie. Highlights for us at Montpellier were the people- all of them really friendly and helpful- it is easy to see that their repeat bookings are higher than average! We will certainly go again.

Went for dinner at the acclaimed restaurant that is part of the hotel. Compared to the delightful and welcoming experience we had received from waitresses, hotel staff, shop assistants, the police and other members of society on the island, the attitude and behaviour of all the staff (bar the lady in reception) was decidedly surly, off hand and to be honest, quite rude. Some points that immediately come to mind: In such a restaurant, I don't expect to have to wait over 5 minutes to order a drink after being shown to a table and given the drinks menue and only then after I went tolo the bar to order. How many times is normal to ask the waitress not to take our plates as we had not finished eating? - three? Having to ask for sugar to go with our coffee was followed by the last straw - having to go back to the bar to ask for a spoon to stir it with. Very poor service all round to go with the attitude. The prices were excessive for what was far from exceptional food. The only reason to reluctantly give a second star was the situation and decor of the establishment. There are far better places to go on the island. Not worth the trip.

I am so absolutely thrilled that we decided to stay at this hotel. It was an amazing experience from start to finish. The staff is by far the best around and the grounds are beautiful. A special shout out to Kaddy who made each day special. We celebrated my husbands birthday there and they truly made it special. The rooms are gorgeous, spacious and comfortable. Highly recommend this beautiful resort. We spent a day at the beach and the staff there was super attentive. Great food & drinks.

Wow- Absolutely beautiful venue with possibly the most caring service we ever had at a resort. We can not say enough about the week we just spent at Montpelier Plantation. It is very understated and quiet. For lack of better words I would call it elegant simplicity. The hotel which is not on the water is built on an old sugar plantation overlooking the sea. It has its own private beach that you go to via the hotel van. The beach was wonderful as were the lunch and dinner barbecues the hotel provided at the beach.

Just gets better and better. We rarely visit a holiday location more than once, this was our third stay. The staff are great and many remembered us from a year ago (we are not that memorable). As one of our fellow guests stated, this is a resort for the introverted - no overly intrusive staff or guests just very friendly and helpful. Room was large, airy and very, very clean. Bed was massive and very comfortable. The only thing that could be improved (it has from last year) is shower water pressure but this is being addressed by the government as water availability and conservation is an island-wide issue. We were on a b&b basis and the breakfasts are very good. We dined in on their burger night and the beach BBQ. Both were good value and we would certainly sign up for them again.

Had been looking at wonderful Montpelier online for ages thinking we didn't deserve to come here but eventually took the plunge for our wedding anniversary. Transfer from the airport to hotel by taxi, speedboat and then taxi was seamless. Greeted by Mandy and by the time we had walked through the property our bags had magically appeared in our room. Opted for the fruit punch which was probably the right choice as their rum punch which we had later is full strength. Montpelier was lively when we were there, in a good way. Beach is slightly further than we had been expecting such that we initially thought we must have got on someone else's tour bus by mistake. By the way for the actual round island tour try to book Hubert. We were well looked after by everyone - the ever present owner Muffin, waitresses Lindsay and Fenella, and barmen Kaddy and TiJean. Housekeeping was outstanding. We put some laundry out giving two days notice and it was back the same day, on a Sunday! Fabulous extravagant evening meal in the Mill Privée. They took into account our dietary preferences which were further adjusted for us at the last minute. Unforgettable. In contrast the only curiosity is that for afternoon tea you are limited to choosing either a scone or a cake. Loved going back to our room before dinner to watch the monkeys parading and the evening light falling on the hillside. This is a place we hope to return to.

I loved staying at this hotel. I loved that it was set up on the mountain and had more of a lush jungle feel. The grounds are very well taken care of. I had a room that was further away from the main house that had a lot of monkey action and even had them on the roof of my room. The food and drinks were great, as well as the service. Loved the trip to their private beach, which also had a staff bartender on hand. I will definitely be back!
