Absolutely incredible place to stay. The staff were very helpful and the facilities were fantastic. Nature freely walked around the hotel with zebras sometimes being just outside our door. Will definitely recommend this place to a friend.

We stayed at Mongena for a week and got married there on the Saturday night. So we've been interacting with Marina and her team for nearly a year planning the wedding. We had the most amazing time. All of the staff that we interacted with were extremely professional and treated us really well. They really go the extra mile to make sure you are looked after. The food is incredible - everything we ate was delicious. The grounds are very well kept and there are zebra, springbok and nyala roaming around, which are beautiful to look at. We went on a sunset cruise and two game drives, and saw a lot. The rangers were professional and knowledgeable, while also being helpful. The wedding was incredible - Marina is the most amazing organiser and every member of her team worked very hard to make the wedding a success. Everyone had a good time. We had people stay over on the Friday night before the wedding and it was great to have more time to interact with our guests. Overall a fantastic experience and would highly recommend it. Bonus that it is so close to Johannesburg and OR Tambo airport.

So so disappointed. Having booked the River Cruise months ago for a special pre-wedding celebration, it was unfortunately cancelled due to the rain. This is of course understandable but I was super disappointed that Mary (to whom I spoke) could not suggest any alternative activities and made no effort help whatsoever. When, eventually, I suggested that we use the funds already paid at the restaurant, Mongena agreed but wanted to charge an additional R1000 transfer to collect from a neighbouring lodge. When cancelling an activity like this due to the weather, the Mongena team should have done everything possible to accommodate our group some other way, knowing that it was for a special event. Instead, Mary was rude and unsympathetic to what had happened. I'm gutted about by how poorly this was handled.

Wonderful bush experience and so close to JHB. Our conference was a resounding success and stay so enjoyable. The main resort facilities are wonderful and staff are all friendly and go out of their way to assist. All the catering throughout the conference was of the highest standard, and every venue/restaurant within the Game lodge offers a unique experience and spectacular views. For large groups, the Eco Challenge is highly recommended and so such fun – game rangers take you into the bush and do activities with the participants – everyone had a super time.

What an amazing place - highly recommended. The facilities are well maintained and staff are always so friendly and go out of their way to help you. All the catering for our conference was of the highest stand. The variousvenues within Mogena, whether for a meal or sight seeing are all very special and offer unique experiences. We will definitely be back!!

I can’t say enough about our time at Mongena. From the minute we arrived and our original room had a leak and we were given a better room. The game drives were excellent with our game range Macs, who was very dedicated to making sure we saw everything we could and went out of his way to explain how the birds reacted to how the game behaved. His knowledge for someone so young was remarkable and we loved his enthusiasm. The staff at the lodge always very polite, the food very good, chalets perfect and having zebras, nyalas and springboks roaming the grounds so cool. I live in the USA so this was perfect for me and why I love Africa having grown up in Zimbabwe. I would highly recommend Mongena for its proximity to Pretoria (48 minutes from my sister’s house), reasonable cost and the peaceful atmosphere, well-run facility and the fact that we saw four out of the big five. That was a bonus for me!! Thank you Macs and everyone else at Mongena.

This was our first visit to South Africa and the Bush. Our close friends have stayed here previously and had nothing but good words to say. Upon arrival, we were met by a very polite receptionist and had a lovely meal in the Kingfisher Restaurant. At around 2pm, we met our Ranger Andrew who took us down to the Barn House and helped us unload. We went out on a game drive that evening and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience from start to finish. Andrew was kind, knowledgable, made us laugh and could not have done more to make the experience any more perfect. We saw many animals, and learned about a whistling flower too. Andrew made us feel safe and welcome and I can’t thank him enough. The Barn House was amazing with a huge view of the reserve and we watched the lightening over the horizon both evenings. Thank you to all at the Reserve for making our visit so magical and I wouldn’t hesitate in coming back as soon as I am able! Thank you Mongena and thank you Andrew, you are a credit to the Reserve and the kindness and respect you showed both to the wildlife and the Reserve shone through.

This game lodge is inside Dinokeng National park . The road network is fantastic only 2 Kilometers of dirt road . The reception at the place was in style , very welcoming Team I must say . The gardens is well looked after and the chalet are within a very nice shady tree with very green grass . Oh the view from the chalet is fantastic the bucks roaming around the Lodge yard grassing just give peace of mind . Waking up in the morning and just enjoy the birds singing is one of the thing will make me to visit again .

We went on a game drive at Mongena Lodge in September 2023 with the expectation of seeing the Big 5. We only saw 2 rhino's. On Mongena Lodge's previous website they stated: " taking you to the best lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and hippo sightings imaginable". That was the exact wording. I chose Mongena Lodge on this expectation that they created on their website. This was a birthday gift from our siblings to my elderly parents. My parents had to come from Potchefstroom for this experience which, at the end, did not happen. It was a total disappointment! I actually felt embarrassed that I asked my siblings to contribute to this game drive. When I took this up with the management, they told me that they can never guarantee any sightings and that they will change the wording on their new website. They also decided to stop any further communication with me. I asked to be reimbursed for at least half of what we paid for, because we were not taken "to the best lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah and hippo sightings imaginable" as they claimed on their previous website. We only saw 2 rhino's. Until now I have been ignored by the customer service and management of Mongena Lodge.
