Second visit to PBH, first was pre-COVID. The food was exceptional again, an absolute highlight! The setting is stunningly relaxing, the sounds of the bush all around make this the ultimate place to relax. We were a bit disappointed at the firm restriction on taking a bottle of wine back to our room, or order bottles to our room (a change from last time). We were told it was RSA restrictions, although we've not had similar experiences elsewhere, and I'm not sure I'd have been told that had I ordered from the Cellar List. We had previously enjoyed lounging by the pool and being able to top up a glass without having to engage with anyone to ask for 'another glass', or go to the door to collect it. During one dinner, we also had to get up to ask for wine to be served to us. Not a huge deal, but at the tariff charged, we were expecting (and had previously received) better service and more generous offerings. These experiences made it feel like a cost saving exercise. On a positive note, great to see that they're continuing to serve Pol Roger as standard champagne. That said, having experienced a few of these types of lodgings now, I really hope they revisit some aspects of their current approach. A key element is not having to ask for or think about anything at these places, that the staff are always a step ahead, so this did take away from that a bit on this trip unfortunately.
