As always: good things first and then some tips. This is a smart and safe hotel in Pune close to the large Pavilion shopping centre. The rooms are large and stylish (viewed my colleagues as well as my own). Staff were excellent and couldn’t do more to help. Food was also good and clean, I preferred the buffet to the Italian but that may be because I’m more familiar with good Italian, but the pizza was excellent and the in-room service (I tried the soups which were outstanding). Breakfast was a outstanding 5 star, with a large and delicious range from home curries to freshly made omelette and juice. There is a nice spa and the pool is lovely up on the first floor, very luxurious. Some tips: 1. pick a room facing into the courtyard as they have a better view. 2. Bring steriliser wipes. Bizarrely there was no central switch so you had to individually turn things on and off – and the switches were not clean. Considering hygiene that was a big miss for me. Now a few moans: we’re rightly taught to be paranoid when visiting India and I could hear someone being sick whilst I was laid up (caught Dengue despite vaccine and liberal Deet). So the switches were one issue (bring wipes), but the other is was the lovely rainwater shower where it was impossible not to get water in your face. There was no other way of showering i.e. hand held. There was plenty of bottled water was supplied to brush teeth, wash face and drinkbut this seemed a bit daft. Couple of opportunities: there is a great spa, but no nails or makeup only massages. Colleague did one, I recommend doing it as soon as you arrive. Another missed opportunity is the lack of a gift shop, considering the number of solo travellers and as walking around outside wasn’t safe, I would have loved to have bought some good quality gifts to take home.
