Minnan Yuqing Courtyard Homestay (Kaiyuan Temple Branch, West Street, Quanzhou Ancient City)

I never write reviews for hotels booked on Trip.com, but I'm making an exception this time. Cons: The parking area is quite a distance from the hotel, and the road is very difficult to navigate. The weather was sweltering, and the ancient city streets were packed with people. Dragging luggage and a child around was absolutely exhausting. Pros: The owner was incredibly warm and enthusiastic, actively helping us with our luggage. This was particularly noticeable after staying in numerous guesthouses from north to south; having such a welcoming and service-oriented owner really makes a huge difference. The hotel's ambiance also has strong Southern Fujian characteristics, and the decor is very thoughtfully done. You can see the owner's immense effort in every detail of the furniture and facilities. The father (presumably the owner's father or a staff member) was a bit shy but also very chatty. (To be honest, Quanzhou didn't leave a great impression on me overall, from the dining to the ancient city, everything was just so-so. This positive review is solely for the guesthouse owner.)

I chose Qingyu for both nights of my stay in Quanzhou, and I was absolutely delighted with my experience. First and foremost, the guesthouse boasts an excellent location. It's not far from any of the ancient city's main attractions, and you can reach the Bell Tower within five minutes on foot. From there, the 'Xiaobai' electric vehicles can take you to any spot in the old town. Secondly, the guesthouse is a traditional Fujianese house with a lovely wooden camphor scent that I particularly enjoyed. The owner, A-Du, keeps everything meticulously organized, and there's a cat, a turtle, and a school of fish. A-Du's father, Old Du, is incredibly kind and always warmly invites guests to sit down for tea. During my two-day stay, I never felt like an outsider; it was incredibly comfortable and relaxing. I'm quite particular about cleanliness, and the room was impeccably tidy. They even provided complimentary disposable face towels, bath towels, and toilet seat covers, which was a pleasant surprise. We often returned to the courtyard after a tiring day of exploring, had a comfortable sleep, and then leisurely embarked on our next adventure. In short, next time I visit, I will definitely stay at Qingyu Courtyard again.

The B&B's location is excellent, right on West Street. It's tucked away in an alley, so it's not noisy at all. We booked two rooms that shared a private courtyard, which was lovely. The B&B is in an old building and has a lot of character. I really liked the skylight design in the room, and all the food recommendations from the owner were delicious.

This hotel is part of a 200-year-old traditional house that has been beautifully renovated. It retains its ancient charm, and kids absolutely love exploring the different courtyards. We experienced a rainy day, and it was so relaxing to sit by the patio, listening to the rain while sipping tea. The owner is incredibly welcoming, always offering tea, and there's an adorable cat named Tangyuan. The location is super convenient, nestled between West Street and Zhongshan Middle Road, making it easy to get around quickly. Plus, it's surprisingly quiet.

My friends and I all thought this place was fantastic. Tingjian and Wanggui are located in a separate, ancient-style courtyard, full of Zen charm. The owner was incredibly helpful and accommodating. The hotel's cat, Tangyuan, is also adorable. You can go pet her anytime in the old house, and they even thoughtfully provide freeze-dried treats for her. That little cat just can't resist food! We'll definitely stay here again next time we're in town, highly recommended! The location is also super convenient; most of Quanzhou's attractions and shopping are nearby, making it easy to get around. The food recommendations from the owner were also top-notch, absolutely superb!
