Appalling service. I made a point of calling and booking a room with a view as a treat for my sisters visit from interstate. I was specifically told the room I booked had views over Swan Bay. When we arrived at 4.55pm reception was unmanned, the bartender gave us the key. We asked where to go and she waved her hand and said around the corner. We were given a room on the ground floor at the back of the hotel with a view of parked cars. The room had a wet, dirty towel hanging on the back of the door. I explained at the bar that I had booked a room with a view. Finally they located a manager, "Alice" to assist me. Well! I have never encountered such rude and unhelpful treatment. As well as talking over the top of me, she accused me of lying about my booking, and then said, that the room I had booked was occupied as the guests had extended their stay. . I asked why they hadn't been told the room was booked and given a different room. She told me that I should understand how highly inappropriate that would be. (really?) she then said the people in our room had been coming for 20 years and were valued customers. Implying we were not valued. She then said we could go somewhere else and have my money refunded. As two senior ladies who had travelled for 4 hours to arrive we opted to stay, I asked for a reduction but was told again to book elsewhere. Alice had a very overbearing and bullying manner better suited to debt collector than hospitality. In addition, despite being "their busiest time of year" as I was repeatedly told, the upstairs bar was closed, reception closed, no room service, no mini bar. Overall so disappointed that such a lovely building could be so mismanaged. ,

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful historical hotel. Cate and the staff were very accommodating and helpful. So glad this icon is still with us following the 2 year long lockdowns in Victoria. Our spa room was very comfortable and spacious compared to the boring stock standard tiny hotel rooms you usually get. This was an absolute treat and my husband and I were sorry to leave. We'll be back again. Thanks Cate and staff.

Pretty disappointed with the Vue Grand. The entry is nice but very dark. It does look like it has a lot of potential though. We stayed in a Balcony room and I wouldn't recommend it. The bathroom was tiny, the vanity so small you couldn't even fit a toiletries bag on it and with a bubbling, cracked wood look laminate surface. The shower was so small, that my husband could barely get his shoulders in there. Also you could hear absolutely everything in the room next door, talking, coughing, toilet breaks, everything! Another couple we were travelling with managed to change to one of the suites on the top level. This room was renovated and lovely, a far cry from the Balcony room. I wouldn't stay at the hotel again unless it was in one of the renovated suites. There was a very strange atmosphere upon check out. There was no one around, except an elderly lady on a walking frame trying to find where breakfast was served as she believed her package included breakfast. The hotel was not serving breakfast at all, on a weekend!! There is great potential for the roof top as the views are spectacular, but there is no bar service up there so you have to trudge up the stairs with your drinks, then it's shut promptly on sunset. The way the hotel is run is reminiscent of when we were in the middle of the pandemic, with minimal staff and services. A bit of a shame because I believe it could be lovely.

The hotel is very charming, with lots of character and ambiance. Our room was on the first floor, and the light in the hallway wasn’t working, so we couldn’t find our room without having to put our phone torch on. We did mention this to the front desk, but it was still like it when we left. The room was basic, but comfy. TV was tiny, and sitting on a desk, which we had to move around so we could watch it at a proper angle. The bathroom was very dark, and I couldn’t use the shower as the water kept going icy cold or scorching hot. We made use of the restaurant for dinner, and it was superb. The service was amazing, and the food to die for.

We read a lot of negative reviews on Trip Advisor about the Vue Grand Hotel and almost cancelled our booking. But we are SO glad we came here after all. This hotel has the warmth and charm of an earlier era. It has real character. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very welcoming. The restaurant was very good. The bars were inviting. Our room was spotlessly clean and spacious. The bed was comfy. What more do you want? It’s dated, sure. But so what? If you want a modern, glitzy hotel stay in Melbourne. What you see is what you get with the Vue Grand. It’s a grand old dame - not the Hyatt. Step back in time and enjoy the Vue Grand. We would happily stay here next time we’re on the Bellarine Peninsula. Mick & Maree Williams Sandringham VIC Australia.

Having heard so much about this iconic hotel my expectations were high. Sadly deflated. We arrived on a Monday about 530-6pm to find the door locked, we phoned the after hours number and were met and given a key to the door and our room. We did not receive the alleged text message to advise of protocol for afterhours access. Room on ground floor was dark with no ambiance at all. We paid for a spa room so was pricy. The bathroom was cold and uninviting , so didn't use the spa except for a shower, located above spa bath, had to climb in. There was no restaurant or bar which we knew about. However we had 2 teabags, plus coffee and earl grey teabags and 3 sachets of milk. I would have thought a couple of packets of biscuits would not have broken the bank! As no restaurant a couple of packets of cereal and milk would have not gone astray for breakfast and more teabags. hey ho, anyway at least the bed was comfortable and that's all I can say as a positive, although it was like sleeping in a morgue so dark and miserable. have travelled the world and this comes very close to the worse we have stayed in.

Location was excellent. Staff good - Cate helpful when the air conditioner didn’t work and she was able to reset it. She gave us batteries for the TV remote, but it still didn’t work. We booked through ***********, and it seems that the less desirable rooms, are given to the customers that book through this website? Unfortunately, we did not get the relaxing visit that we thought we would in Queenscliff. We did ask to move rooms when we arrived, but were told that we would have to pay another $165 approximately. This room should surely come with a disclaimer that it joins the dining room and that there will be noise and that the curtain can’t be opened, due to the fact that it looks straight into the dining room - the bottom part of the window is frosted. Disappointing.

Our Wedding anniversary, it was a Monday night, very few other guest, for that we got good attention by staff and enjoyed a tremendous meal and retired to a very cosy room for the night. The only disappointment was no Breakfast in House, but found a Restaurant around the corner that was more than excellent and no lifts. As we are on the older scale of ageing it was a bit hard to get to the 3rd floor to the room we had chosen for its lay out and facility's. but it was worth the effort. Gunter and Lesley Wendt

So disappointed in this accomodation. There is nothing grand about it. Would have been magnificent in its day but we paid just under $600 for two night, for a very average spa room with broken lights (one live sire?!?!) The room desperately needed a paint and updating. No sleep in as really noisy in the morning, you can hear everyone coming and going and dogs outside on the street non stop barking so my guess is the windows aren’t glazed. The roof top bar had amazing views but we had to carry our drinks from the bottom floor on the Friday night which wasn’t very relaxing. Sat afternoon was a bit better but only one poor bloke running the bar who ran out of ice of all things. Probably best to focus on quality over quantity and restore some rooms to their former glory and just rent those out.
