At the recommendation of good friends, we stayed at the West View Hotel for 5 nights towards the end of May, 2023. We had a wonderful experience and recommend the hotel to everyone. It is truly a gem, ideal to relax and soak in the serenity and beauty of kumaon hills. The hotel is built around a heritage property, sprawling across 9 acres, surrounded by pine trees all around and ringed by the himalayan mountains further afield. The property reflects the quiet grace, elegance and beauty of the owner. It is well located, on the road from Ranikhet to the Chaubatia orchard, and just a 10 minute walk to the jhula devi temple. The rooms are spacious and elegant and comfortable, without being ostentatious. The best part of the hotel is just the quietness that allows you to appreciate the serene surroundings and the beauty all around you, from virtually anywhere on the property. Lush greenery, vibrantly colored flowers, the sounds of the forest, and the chirpiness of all kinds of birds from early on in the mornings. The staff of the hotel, ***aged ably by the ***ager, Mr. Devendra Singh Tanwal and Mr. Iswar Singh Bisht are efficient and friendly and responed quickly to any requests that we had (for example in fixing a glitch in our TV reception late at night). They were generous with their suggestions for sightseeing, including finding a restaurant that serves excellent local kumaoni cuisine! The food served at the hotel was good, with sufficient variety. The hotel serves a sumptuous breakfast, including north Indian and south Indian cuisine (apart from the cornflakes and eggs and toast). We were surprised especially with their dosais and coconut chutney and the vermicelli upma. The room service was quick. For us, the iceing on the cake was the beautiful Chotu, the handsome, energetic yet friendly dog on the property. His warmth and friendliness to everyone was a pleasure to behold. We miss him already. Our one suggestion would be to include at least one English news channel on your TV.
