We’ve just returned from an amazing holiday in Crete. The Amira is a beautiful hotel and we had a wonderful time. Check in was smooth and we were greeted with welcome drinks and fruit, as we arrived later in the evening and had booked half board we were able us to have dinner before starting the full check in process - much appreciated after a long day of travelling The hotel was beautiful and we were upgraded to a pool facing suite, everything was spotlessly clean and all the staff were friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond to help guests. The breakfast and dinner was buffet style and we enjoyed this, there was a variety of options and themed nights - with buffet style food it will never be exceptional but it was good enough. As a fussier person I was happy with the selection and loved the desserts. They had a few a La carte restaurants too but we didn’t try these in the end. We had lunch at the pool bar most days and this was lovely too - food and drinks are more pricey in the hotel verses outside of it but that’s been my experience for most places. The entertainment was quite chilled, live music most nights and a DJ on Wednesday evening , this was a good laugh and got people dancing. The location is good, when you come out of the hotel and turn right there are a selection of mini Marts, restaurants and bars. However the more lively part is the Old town - Rethmynon , a 10 min taxi ride and this was between €14-€16 euros. I believe you can also get a bus. Here they had lots of shops, bars , restaurants - and lovely for a explore in the evenings. All in all we’d definitely return one day but have som useful feedback that would have made our stay even better: 1) the pool was really cold despite 28+ degree weather, would have been lovely to have warmer water to swim in 2) the wifi was slow and could do with a upgrade 3) The shower room by the indoor pool really needs a lock on the door, so you can feel at ease when using the facilities. 4) The coffee at breakfast wasn’t great , as coffee lovers this was important to us so we were a little disappointed 5) the dress code for dinner is a little hit and miss - my partner couldn’t wear smart sandals but some guests were wearing baseball caps doesn’t really align to being formal
