Kew Studios and Rooms

I can’t get my deposit back.

Friendly welcome, great location close to the Tube, coffee and kettle, good shower, an excellent place for a short stay in the area. Kew Gardens is an easy walk away and there is a supermarket as well.I only stayed for one night, but it was more than adequate and warm.

Great location for Kew Gardens. Room clean enough. Big enough. Bathroom no shower screen or bath mat so slippery floor. Broken furniture in bedroom but fine for one night stop over. Heard shouting and swearing in the morning which was disconcerting. Phoned owners who said all was well!

Apartment was clean. Personnel was flexible and accommodating. Getting in contact by phone was not easy as multiple phone numbers were either no longer in service or gave no answer on arrival. Opening or closing room and house (front) door took some practice but we got it in the end.

Tried to contact the owners for 24 hours by land line phone, 3 mobile phone numbers, email, text and ******* messaging, no response before checkin. One mobile phone number didn’t connect and the others went to voicemail. Left several messages but no one replied. had no idea if anyone was going to be there to let us in. Unusually for me i hadn't checked the reviews beforehand. Wish i had. It was convenient for Kew gardens but that’s all i can say.

First, the positives - lovely comfortable bed, good quality bedding, and the blackout curtains, ensured a good night’s sleep. The location was convenient for us. The kettle, tea and coffee and biscuits were appreciated. However, there were a lot of negatives, notwithstanding the relative cheapness of a sub £100 price per night. The fixtures and fittings were in an awful state, falling to bits and rusting. Starting with the wardrobe, it was shoogly, and the door didn’t close properly. The toilet seat was extremely loose, making it very difficult to use. The shower head attachment came off, and the shower head (lower one) couldn’t be tilted. The basin tap handle was almost off, making it difficult to turn on/off and change temperature. The key to the outside door was difficult to use until you got the knack of it. There were things missing which should be there, regardless of price imo including bedside lamps, or at least one, so we didn’t have to get out of bed to switch the light off after reading. Also, a bath mat for when you get out of the shower would have been appreciated.

It was very convenient for my purpose in the area of going to the nearby cemetery to visit. The Richmond area is also known to me and it is very pleasant to stay in that area near the river Thames and visit historical places. The bus stop was outside the property and Kew Gardens underground very near. There was a good selection of restaurants, coffee places and shops by Kew Gardens Station and also in Sandycombe Road where the property is situated. The negative side was that the underground trains travel at the back of the studio where I was staying. It disturbed my sleep the first night but not the second as my brain obviously had become accustomed to the background noise. I would stay again here. The host was polite and welcoming and so was the cleaner.

The loo seat was loose & the window blind in my room fell off when I closed it. There was no remote for the tv & the front door key didn't work properly "there is a knack to it" apparently.

Unfortunately when I stayed there was refurbishment going on so the kerb appeal was not great. I booked a double room and got upgraded to a studio which was a pleasant but welcome surprise. The studio was clean but lacked attention to detail with maintenance, for example light bulbs not working, bathroom door badly fitting, shower head holder broken. Guests need to be aware that the train line runs very close to the back of the studios with trains running frequently between 6am - midnight. All in all, the studio was adequate for my weekend stay
