We arrived at the hotel on May 1 at about 1 pm and were not given our room till 3 pm. This came as a shock as platinum ambassador members are entitled to an early check-in. We waited at the bar for a couple of hours on uncomfortable, small, very low, armless chairs. Another surprise was that there was no club floor lounge at this hotel. We were not made aware of this earlier, or we would have chosen another hotel. A lounge to relax and change the scene was vital to us, which is why we kept the Ambassador membership. Finally, we got our room- a large, pleasant room upgraded one level because of our membership status. Perhaps an Italian King-size bed is not the same size as a US King – this one was definitely smaller than what we are used to. The TV was also small. Comfort seems to have been sacrificed at the altar of minimalism. We had two hard chairs in the room. A desk, a dressing table, a couple of comfortable armchairs, and shelves in the cupboards would have been so welcome. We found two small bottles of water in our room, and I was told I had to pay for more water. This should never ever happen. In every Intercontinental hotel we have stayed at, there have been unlimited bottles of water. And even these two bottles of water were not replaced each day. Apparently, there was a terrain war between room service and housekeeping as to who this task belonged to. Telephone service did not work - not a single day. We had to call several times for the line to go through. Often, we were cut off. And at other times, the line was connected to any department at random. These problems should have been sorted out before the hotel opened. The evening turndown service happened only twice in the four days we were there. There was no room service menu in the room. Our daughter joined us a couple of days later, and we had also reserved a room for her. She asked for firm pillows and waited over 45 minutes. She called Reception and was told she needed to wait longer as they have only one or two persons on duty in the evenings. Why are you open for business in this case? The Housekeeping staff was the worst. Dirty dishes were not removed from the day before, so they kept accumulating in the room until we ran out of cups, plates, and spoons each day. The dirty cake plates left in our room on the first day were not cleaned until the last day. The Cleaning lady would walk in without knocking or ringing the bell, screaming loudly in Italian. She went straight to the phone without a by your leave, and when no one would take her call- she started shouting - but she made no attempt to pick up the plates. We did not engage with her. She left, and then someone else came to clean up. This happened daily. People - housekeeping, room service, and technicians keep barging into the room without ringing the bell or knocking. One day, in one hour, the cleaning lady came into our room three times despite the Do Not Disturb sign. The third time I came out onto the corrid
