My partner Liz & I visited this pub at lunchtime on the August Bank Holiday for an inpromptu light lunch. The pub wasn't too busy, but there were enough people to make opening worthwhile. I was disappointed that the changing real ale was not available, leaving only Tim Taylor's Landlord or the ubiquitous Doom Bar, so I opted for Inch's cider as it was a suitably hot & sunny day. We chose three of the Indian light bites and a chicken Caesar salad. Apologies were sincerely given for the delay in serving our food. In mitigation I think there was only one member of staff on duty. The Indian portions were very generous and delicious, and accompanied by two dips; the chilli dip had a fresh and pleasantly hot taste. The salad was nicely prepared and the dressing well suited. All the items on the menu are very reasonably priced. Going by what we had for this lunch, we sincerely recommend this establishment to all, especially those seeking something different from the traditional British fare.

Great indian food and fantastic service. Extremely personable and attentive staff. 11 of us eat starter, main and desert, all of us would definitely go again. Good selection of drinks and variety of starters, mains and deserts. I had pander starter, homestyle chicken curry main and Indian sweet with ice cream for desert. All very good.

Situated within easy reach of Southampton and the New Forest Attractions, this venue represents excellent value for money in my opinion. I have rated it as an 4/5 for the following reasons. The bedrooms are in a recently built annexe, and my room was on the first floor. Access is by outside metal staircases, which were a little challenging for me due to mobility issues. Fortunately it was dry and the stairs were not slippery on this occasion. There are two ground floor rooms, so when I stay there again I shall request one of them. The room I used was sizeable and clean. The bed linen was spotless, and it was a very comfortable bed. However, it is a single and the duvet was a little narrow, leaving draught entrances when in bed. The full length mirror in the room was on the floor leaning against the wall at an angle and needs to be hung properly. The tea making shelf was loose on the wall and could not be used safely. There is no wardrobe, just a rail with hangers. The curtains were flimsy and let in all of the early morning light, which compounded the problem of the bright green LED light in the smoke detector on the ceiling above my bed which irritated me all night. These are all very easily remedied issues and should not detract from an otherwise comfortable room. The shower was excellent. Plenty of hot water at a good pressure. The pub has it's own restaurant, and I went for the fish and chips. The service was very slow, however the waiter was very polite and attended to all my needs, albeit slowly. My meal took an hour to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Superbly cooked, a sizeable and really fresh piece of fish, and superb chips. I would say as good as any I have had, including the excellent Colmans in South Shields or any Harry Ramsdens. I ordered breakfast, an extra £10 which I thought was reasonable. It was presented well and very tasty, in particular the sausage. If the team address the issues in the rooms, I would happily score them 5/5

Just visited this pub for a quick lunch. The menu seemed varied and good value for money. Ordered a mixture of starters, chicken wings, squid rings and tandoori chicken. Food was ok, because we weren’t expecting much due to cheap pricing. Not so. Squid was frozen type, not nice, on menu for £5.90 charged £7 Tandoori chicken, really nice. On menu for £4.90, charged £6 Fries were standard, supermarket fries On menu for £1.60, charged £4!! Left a very bad taste in my mouth. Would have questioned this but my partner didn’t want to make a fuss. Needless to say, we won’t be back.

We had a fabulous, excellent value for money Indian meal at The Dog & Crook. Everything was very authentic. Staff were lovely. Also good yet very reasonable wine list. Looking forward to returning soon to sample more of their very tempting dishes.

Amazing , tasty authentic INDIAN PUNJABI food. Good portions. A variety of different dishes which aren’t available in most other Indian restaurants nearby. Great staff ( Coleen) and very attentive. This will definitely be our local Indian! It’s a little gem hidden in the outskirts of Romsey.. Keep up the good work!

Nice stay
Had a lovely stay, despite the stormy weather.
Service was great.Breakfast was delicious with extra shots of espresso.
Only downside was squeaky floors in the hallway. It sounded like some one was walking in the room .
