I don’t typically write reviews but after our week’s stay at Casa Ybel I felt compelled. While the property itself is beautiful (being right on the ocean), the resort is tired and needs major upgrades. At $1,000 a night, the conditions were not acceptable, and service is lacking. When arriving at the resort, it would have been nice to have someone bring our bags to our room (especially since we had to schlep up stairs), but this was not the case, which was fine. The room itself was a bit disappointing for the price. The bedroom rug was filthy with stains everywhere and just plain old and dirty. The tub was in need of repair—no plug for tub and rusted drain and curtain rod. There were bugs in the light fixture and the bath faucet wouldn’t shut off—we had to jiggle the handle back and forth to get it to stop each time. The closet door that housed the air conditioner was off the hinges and resting in the casing, not to mention that the air conditioner was so loud when it kicked on that it woke us from our sleep each night. The screened porch was a nice amenity however the screens had holes in in them so we couldn’t sit out at night due to bugs. Also the porch railings were full of dirt and debris. I gave the review a 2 because the beach is beautiful, but otherwise, not worth the high price! The pool is small and crowded, as well. Definitely did not measure up to $1,000 a night property. Go to South Seas in Captiva instead—much cleaner and better service! See pics below!

I am writing about our very disappointing stay at Casa Ybel. What was billed as a luxury resort turned out to be much less than expected. For the price of the room during off season, I expected an extremely nice and upscale hotel experience. Your website is misleading and a few well place photos hide a myriad of details that would have led us to not book a stay at your hotel. We did not receive anything close to expectations. We knew when we checked in, we could not stay in the same room for the three days. We were booked into a two bedroom for one night and had to move to a one bedroom for the next two nights. We checked into the two bedroom and were disappointed right away with the cleanliness of the villa. It was run down and was not very clean. When we walked out onto the patio, we were surprised to see how dirty the sliding door was and there were various other elements that made us feel like this resort was going to be far less stellar than what we thought, based on your website and previous ratings. For $489/night for the room, I would have expected much better! We had a coffee pot that was totally non-intuitive and we could not figure out how to use it. We called the front desk and they said there should be instructions in the room, there were none. We then went to the front desk and were told they had no idea how to use it, then proceeded to tell us to walk to Jerry’s and find coffee. Then my sister walked the coffee pot to the front desk for an explanation and finally a maintenance person was sent to the room to demonstrate how to use. The sheets were of low quality and the floors were stained with dirt. We received a phone call that evening saying we needed to move the next day and we should have our bags packed and someone would move our bags. We had a day of outings planned so when we got a call about 2 pm about moving, we told them to go ahead and move our bags. When we returned to the resort, I went to the front desk and was met with a puzzled gazed by the woman at the front desk who proceeded to take 20 minutes to locate our new room assignment and give us keys. When we got to the new room, a one bedroom oceanfront, I was surprised to see the continued drab and somewhat dirty feel of the room. It also had a totally different feel also than the two bedroom, different coffee pot, different bath amenities leading me to conclude this was not a well-run cohesive resort but rather a hodgepodge of various rental units. Not at all what was advertised. When I opened the refrigerator door, I was disgusted to see dirt and crumbs on the top shelf which had not been cleaned. The next morning when we looked for plates and could not find any in the cupboard, we realized the dishwasher had not been emptied and we could not actually tell if it was run. For $418/night, this was a disgrace. We own a Marriott time share and the cleanliness and attention to detail are so much more than what we experienced at Casa

the hotel has very beautiful facilities, beautiful hotel, you pay $500 per night when you arrive at the hotel they charge you everything apart from the sun lounger, the umbrella, the house kepping, the towels, then they do not give you new towels if you call or soap . they say that the service is given by hilton that is not through the hotel even if you buy through the hotel. the hotel and how beautiful it is does not match the service. very bad service not friendly. they have to organize if it is hilton or the hotel I buy or book through the hotel they told me every time I called for help or service. I feel really disappointed for the price I pay and the service we received . Better hotel and services in sanibel .

Grounds are beautiful; room was outdated and smelled very strongly of bug spray. Access to beach was great, pool area was ok but pool staff wasn’t super friendly. Saw lots of cool Little animals too. All in all a really nice weekend! Sanibel is gorgeous.

The best pool on Sanibel. Great stay. Yes, the condo isn’t the fanciest but we loved the pool and they have an exquisite stretch of beach. Sadly we won’t return next year because nightly rates have been increased 50 pct and we found a VRBO at Sundial for much less than $1,000 a night for a 1 BR at Casa Ybel. Highly recommended if you don’t mind paying $1,000 a night.

You can't beat the location of the property - it's conveniently located to most attractions in Sanibel and the direct access to the beach, the size of the pool, and the overall grounds are spectacular. The property is great for families as there are a lot of options for kids and it's also great for couples looking for a romantic getaway without feeling like you're in a crowded hotel. The unit we stayed in was great in terms of size and layout and having the extra space with the kitchen, living room, and screened in porch gave it more spacious feel as opposed to staying in a small hotel room. HOWEVER, and this is where you need to pay attention folks, our unit was literally falling apart. The paint on the bathroom ceiling was peeling, the bedroom carpet was dirty, the 'wood'paneling on the doors was chipping, the A/C unit was inefficient and very loud, the bath towels were low quality, the tub and shower area was small and awkward and felt 'motel-like', and the exterior handle of the porch screen door was broken off, exposing jagged metal that could cause injury. Don't get me wrong, we had a fantastic time in Sanibel as the nature and restaurants were fantastic, including Thistle Lodge on the property which has stunning views and great food, however for the price we paid per night I was expecting the room to be more updated. I'd read the reviews ahead of time and knew that our room may not be as modern or upgraded as it could be, but was never expecting it to be as in disrepair as it was. I really don't like giving negative feedback especially since we had such a terrific time, however thought I'd provide an honest review based on my own experience.

I do not know how this "resort" has an overall rating of a 4 on tripadvisor?? As a traveler looking at different websites to choose a place to go on vacation, Casa Ybel seems to be the perfect place. This can not be further from the truth. I arrived after 9:00 pm with my daughter. As many other reviews point out, we had to schlep our luggage's up three flights of stairs. After a full day of traveling, we enter our one-bedroom "suite", which was dingy, dark and looked liked it had never been cleaned. The floors were dirty, it smelled awful, sheets had hair on them, rug in bedroom had stains in it and ground in dirt that would never come out, bathrooms had several inches of dust and ground in dirt, the air conditioning unit sounded like a 747 jet engine in your room, the kitchen had a few old decrepit appliances that I would never use without cleaning them myself and the over-all room was dilapidated and run-down. Even though we were exhausted, we called front desk and asked for another room. Since there was only one-person on staff, we had to go searching in the dark to find the three other rooms he gave us to look at. All three rooms were exactly like the original room we entered into with varying degrees of cleanliness. We finally choose a room that wasn't as disgusting as the original but not that much better and then proceeded to schlep our bags down from the first room then back up another three flights of stairs. I spoke to the manager the next day, she seemed not to grasp the disappointment nor the conditions they were asking their patrons to endure. I explained the rooms to be of a higher caliber given the price I was paying for the room. Her response was that I was paying less than many of the other guests because I booked in advance. Her remedy was to have the cleaning people clean the original room we were given and said that lunch was on the "resort." She later changed her pathetic offer and gave us a $100 credit instead. I could go on and tell you that the "resort" has little to no staff and that even though you pay for the beach chairs and umbrella's, they did not have enough, so we had to go buy our own umbrella in order to stay on the beach. I could also tell you that I personally killed 3 bugs that could have been either a cockroach or a water bug....not sure? But disgusted either way....

The grounds, pool area and beach are lovely. Thistle restaurant pleasant and one of the highlights. That's about all that was positive. The office staff were aloof. As we had a second floor villa with 27 steps to the front door, I was surprised there was no staff to offer assistance for unloading luggage. I had been forewarned villas were "not fancy"so I asked management before we booked about condition and was told all rooms had been updated. That was a lie. Only kitchen cabinets were replaced but of such poor quality they hung too high above the counter to reach all cabinets.. That didn't matter actually because the kitchen, with sparse dollar store dishes, 2 pots and a broken coffee maker, was so unpleasant. The tacky living room with circa "garage sale rejects" included hideous chairs, a too small dining table, stained throw rug and cracked side table on the porch . Bathroom tub and wall tiles showed their age. and both light switches were broken . Bedroom carpet was ratty, closet had no light fixture ,and headboards blocked access to the windows. Last but not least, the units do not even have private laundry machines. Clearly, management and shareholders are getting away with a huge disconnect between reputation and reality and we unfortunately got caught in the myth. We paid the highest price we ever spent..$809. per night (tax not included) and the lesson I learned is to read reviews more carefully.
