Ocean Pacific Lodge

We had a last minute booking for a weekend in Santa Cruz to visit the Boardwalk. We were looking for a family friendly hotel. The location is great, it is walking distance from the Boardwalk. The pictures of the outside of the hotel are definitely enhanced, in person the hotel looks dull and their sign is faded. We were on the second floor, upon entering the room it looks nice. I turned on the ac and it was struggling but eventually got temperature where we wanted. Two of the shutters were broken and forced to remain closed which kept the room darker than we like. The bathroom is terrible and the light in there is much too soft, it’s too dark. It wasn’t the bath, walls or floor alone. The entire bathroom needs to be redone. The carpet is also very dirty. It’s a dark blue, I believe with a pattern. There is a musty smell in the room. Again, you are paying for location but the bathroom and carpet made the room feel cheap. Walls are pretty thin, you can hear walking and we had people staying near our room that were slamming their door over and over. I’d stay there again for a quick trip if I was going for The Boardwalk.

Easy check in and parking. Staff is very kind and welcoming. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Great renovated showers!

You get what you pay for. Freezing pool, tiny hot tub. Stinky and not-cold in-room fridge. Gross, dirty lobby with nothing inviting about it. In-room chairs 100 yrs old and stiff. only redeeming quality is location to ocean.

Pool icy, no lights. One hot tub was warm. Folks above us turned out to be construction crew. Noisy at 4am. Why would you put early waking folks on the third floor and us, a Vaca traveling family below is baffling. We would like a refund for that night. It ******. But, next day they moved us to 316 - third floor, corner. And, that was great! Office was closed when I tried to get a towel at 6pm. That ****** too! Location was killer. Open air market with great breakfast burritos and coffee just across street. Lots of surfing just a five minute walk away, including the wharf. Not far from the boardwalk.

The room was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the location was great (I specifically chose it because it's close to the beach but not directly on it, which cuts down on noise). The only complaint I have is that even though it was a non-smoking room, there was somehow a lingering smell of smoke.
