Gloria Resorts Hotels in Sanya

I stayed here for a week. The good points were that the hotel and room were clean and smelled ok (apart from the occasional smoker); the staff were generally kind and helpful; the location is in reasonable proximity to the beach; the hotel garden is nice and there are some decent enough restaurants nearby. The bad points were: the cleaner kept knocking on the room door early in the morning around 8:30am when the “do not disturb” sign was on; the shower was far away from the toilet and sink on the other side of the bedroom; the breakfast was not ‘western’ as described, it was Chinese (apart from some cheap bread) and the dishes that should have been hot were lukewarm or cold; 1 of 2 outdoor swimming pools was empty and closed, so I decided to forego swimming in the main pool with screaming noisy children; the decor looks outdated; the ‘gym’ is very poorly equipped; and one of the worst things is that all the guest room doors auto-close extremely loudly. Why not design the doors to soft-close? Hearing very loud banging in from room doors along the corridor - a most unpleasant, irritating way to wake up in the morning and this along with the aforementioned are definitely not befitting experiences when staying in a five star hotel - not even in a 2 or 3 star hotel for that matter. Overall, the experience was average and felt more like a 3 star hotel (but with 5 star prices). I think there are far better hotels in Sanya.
