I stayed at The Suwgra for one night with my wife and three children (ages 17, 15, and 8), and we were truly amazed. The location, the views, and the surrounding landscape were absolutely stunning. This is not a typical hotel but a centuries-old village home, beautifully built into the cliffs of Al Suwgra, a village inhabited for over 500 years. The traditional architecture, both exterior and interior, took us back in time and gave us a rare chance to experience the charm of authentic village life in a very exotic setting. The view, the cool mountain air, the rain and mist, and the peaceful silence were unforgettable. Check-in was smooth, and all the staff were friendly, professional, and spoke good English. We were picked up from the meeting point in Birkat Al Mouz. We stayed in the Al Barsha Suite, which had three bedrooms and four beds—very clean and comfortable. Amenities like hot water, tea/coffee, and stable Wi-Fi made the stay even better, especially considering the remote mountain setting. We also went on a lovely morning hike near the guesthouse. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all delicious and full of authentic local flavors. Meals were served in a scenic dining area, and lunch must be ordered in advance as it’s freshly prepared home-cooked food. The location is absolutely magical—peaceful, scenic, and far from the typical tourist experience. The only issue we encountered was that the bathroom was located outside our suite, and the shower or tap fixture could use some maintenance, as one was a bit loose. However, hot water and full bathroom amenities were available, so it wasn’t a major inconvenience.

The moment you turn off the tarmac road you embark on a real Omani adventure. Dramatic hair-pin bends provide the perfect vantage point to take in magnificent panoramas of the mountains. The team are on hand to transport you bags across the valley via cable car when you arrive and guide you through the village to your room. It is a truly remarkable setting where the family take real pride in explaining how the community came together to realise this project. In the evening they tell you the story and explain the history of the village before the delicious Omani dinner on the terrace. We enjoyed spending an entire day exploring the village, tackling the cliff walk, roaming the wadi below and taking lunch that was freshly prepared for us. It was such an incredibly peaceful location that felt you were gaining a real insight into Omani culture.

The Suwgra is by far the best Hotel in Oman when you are looking for an authentic experience. Run by the Omani Family who originally lived in the village the hotel is able to offer you a high end unwinding stay. We stayed one night only but will definitely be back

Our visit to The Suwgra was a delightful immersion into authenticity, enhanced by the incredibly friendly people there. The place exudes a charming atmosphere, making the experience truly memorable. However, despite notifying them about one of us being vegetarian, the options were limited mainly to side dishes. Considering the price, it would have been appreciated if more attention was given to individual dietary preferences. A little more variety in vegetarian options would have perfected our visit. Nonetheless, it’s a great spot for those seeking an authentic experience with warm hospitality.

From the drive around the mountains to the luggage being pulleyed to the cliff side to the home made food and the hike up the mountain to watch the sunset. The host and staff were so warm and lovely. The whole experience was truely magical. This place was absolutely exceptional and will stay with me for years to come.

Perfect! Unbelievable place. Traditional, nice people, delicious food, incredible architecture. Family business. Mohamed is the best host, he pick us up in Birkut and the day after we had a nice trip in the mountains with nice walks. It is one of the most incredible and unique places I have ever stayed. A wonderful and genuine Omani experience with the entire accommodation built into the side of the mountain! Winding roads both up and down the mountain stop and there is an adventure to walk to the actual place (especially when it rains!). I am unsure if this is the actual Hotels TripAdvisor as it is exceptionally rated on other sites yet not many on here. I’ll break my experience down: Room: cozy, actual mountain in the room with lovely touches such as glass bottles for water, wooden beams and super warm blankets which were needed during April! The terrace is private and has a wonderful view with an almost local mini village feel to it, loved it! Breakfast/Dinner: Both was included and consisted of homemade meals prepared and served to everyone, really tasty. Lovely to meet new people and had a family feel to it. Ate outside with the view, amazing! We had a driver and to be honest with the rain/snow we encountered I am glad we did! Some of the roads are quite hair raising and knowing we had a skilled driver made us feel at ease! We also went to a trek before breakfast and also was there for the rose picking season which was so lovely! I have recommended The Suwgra to everyone and I want to return again for sure! So unique!

Liebevoll restauriertes und für Übernachtung hergerichtetes historisches Felsendorf in einer einsamen Schlucht. Die Bungalows - Steinhütten - sind fast noch im Originalzustand, spartanisch aber schön eingerichtet. Das Personal ist superfreundlich und sehr engagiert. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet und wird auf einem kleinen Platz in der ehemaligen Dorfmitte unter freiem Himmel angeboten. Die Übernachtung hier ist eine wirklich tolle und in der Form vermutlich einzigartige Oman-Erfahrung!
