Overall, the hotel charges luxury prices but delivers a budget-level experience. The overall vibe was very strange — untrained, lacklustre staff, a feeling of abandonment, and none of the professionalism you would expect at this price point. Rooms weren’t properly serviced: we found food left behind by previous guests, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned during our stay, and towels weren’t refreshed. Access to the lake from the so-called “private beach” was unsafe and hardly usable, to which the staff told us to just go to a private beach instead. The restaurant fell far below the promised standard (looked like it was run by a local pizzeria based on the car the chef was driving). Breakfast was also disappointing — charged as “included,” but only available for very limited hours. The front desk, while friendly, was extremely incompetent and unable to cover even basic functions such as operating the payment terminal. Check-out times were also a mess, making us rush back to the hotel to check out the night before leaving, because we wanted to catch a 7am train. On top of that, our room was directly above the parking lot. With no air conditioning or even a fan, leaving the windows open in summer meant late-night noise and light from the cars on the parking lot right outside the window. Looking at most of the 5 star reviews here, I have a strong suspicion that they are fake. I contacted the hotel about these issues but never received a reply. The information about ownership on the website is outdated. Based on this, I cannot recommend booking here.

We only stayed here one night and wished it had been longer. This hotel is standing alone at the side of the lake and we had a lovely view of the lake from our room. The room itself was spotlessly clean and a very high standard. The restaurant is excellent and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable when we needed help with the menu and he made excellent suggestions with the wine. Breakfast was a comprehensive buffet with views to the lake.

What a lovely property,what a lovely view. But lacking in creature comforts and in need of a major renovation. Breakfast area lovely view, one girl doing a fabulous job with what she has at her disposal, juggling service with table clearance. The rooms are not cheap and they are of two star value. My opinion is that the the management put some money back into this impressive historical Hotel.

The views from our beautifully furnished, spacious room were lovely, especially with fall foliage. At the owner's suggestion, we walked into town through the woods and back along the lake. We relaxed in the spotless spa facilities and ate delicious meals in the restaurant. (Another bonus of fall was venison season.) What a truly relaxing and memorable experience.

We stayed in the hotel for two nights between Christmas and New Year and had a wonderful experience. The hotel itself is in a lovely scenic location and is right next to the train station. We were given a card which gives free rail travel in the Black Forest area. The staff couldn't have been more helpful- they were all friendly and have some good tips on things to see and do in the area. The room was amazing- we were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost with a jacuzzi bath and seperate lounge upstairs. The hosts also provided lots of little treats (wine, beer, juice, cakes) all free of charge in the room. Breakfast and dinner were lovely in a nice setting overlooking the lake. The hotel also has a nice spa area with a steam room and sauna which was a real treat after a walk in the snow. The hotel staff have been extra helpful after our stay and are sending my lost kindle all the way to the UK after I left it behind. I would recommend this hotel and hope to return in the future.
