Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden Hotel on the Bund by Nanjing Road

Facilities: Two king-sized beds (1.8m each) – very spacious and comfortable for a family. Location: Super close to Yuyuan Garden subway station. Exit 3 is right across the street from the hotel entrance. Yuyuan Garden is just a 5-minute walk away, and the Bund is 20 minutes away. From the room's floor-to-ceiling windows, you can directly see the Lujiazui 'Three-piece Suit' (iconic skyscrapers), so you don't even need to leave the hotel to enjoy the night view. Cleanliness: The room was spotless, and the hotel had a pleasant, fragrant aroma upon entry. Service: Staff proactively helped with luggage and guided us to the front desk on the 4th floor for check-in.

I booked this hotel for easier access to the Yu Garden lantern festival, and it truly was incredibly convenient! It's just a 650-meter walk from the hotel exit (according to my navigation). I checked in on the 6th day of the ***** New Year and checked out on the 7th, at the tail end of the Spring Festival holiday. There were still plenty of tourists from other parts of China, Hong Kong, Macau (Guangdong), and abroad. Hotel guest parking is charged at 20 RMB for 24 hours. When we arrived, the underground garage was full, so staff directed us to park in one of the limited ground-level spots at the hotel entrance. A staff member warmly guided us to the elevator to the L floor for check-in at the hotel lobby. Breakfast is also on the L floor, opposite the front desk. However, the young male staff member at the front desk who handled my check-in significantly soured my impression of the hotel. There weren't many people checking in yesterday, but he maintained a gloomy expression the whole time. Even if it wasn't directed at us, as first-time guests, it left a poor initial impression of the hotel. Furthermore, for a twin room costing over 1200 RMB, I had requested a higher floor, non-smoking, and close to the elevator. We were given a room on the 10th floor, facing north, directly above the Fuyou Road small commodities market. For a price over 1200 RMB, the value for money felt genuinely low. The hotel breakfast was very ordinary, nothing particularly memorable. You'd expect an established Shanghai five-star hotel to have its own unique culinary features, but the Renaissance's breakfast really didn't stand out. After scanning our room card for breakfast, a server did guide us to a table, which was nice. However, I noticed that the servers seemed to treat guests differently. Our table was by the window, quiet, exactly what I wanted. But they seated a family of four from India, who arrived later, at a six-person table right by the service staff's work area entrance/exit. If I were them, I'd feel a bit unwelcome and discriminated against. The complimentary Yu Garden tickets weren't actually for the core, paid area of Yu Garden during the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival period. They were just general Yu Garden tickets, so we didn't use them. We still had to buy our own tickets to enter Yu Garden. Overall, this Ctrip booking experience was poor, and it left me with a bad impression of the Renaissance.

The location is absolutely unbeatable! It's within walking distance to Yu Garden, The Bund, and Nanjing Road, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing and dining. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable, and the view from the scenic room was absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed watching the old city district during the day and the stunning Bund night view at night – it really created a wonderful atmosphere. A big thank you to Steven for all his help! We'll definitely choose this place again on our next trip to Shanghai.

Excellent location, right next to Yu Garden and within walking distance to The Bund. This hotel still lives up to its old five-star reputation; the service is good. Although the hotel is a bit old, it's well-maintained and doesn't feel dated. The basic amenities are good, and it's very clean. Our twin room even had a view of the Oriental Pearl Tower and the 'Three Towers'!

Even though the hotel is a bit old, it's very clean and the service is excellent. It's super convenient for getting around, and you can see the Bund from the window. Just a few steps downstairs are Yu Garden and the City God Temple... it's also very close to the subway station. Being able to book such a great value hotel during Chinese New Year was absolutely fantastic!

You take the elevator up to the L floor from the entrance to check in, and the front desk staff are very friendly. The deluxe twin room is cozy and clean with a comfortable environment. The location is especially convenient, with a subway station right across the street. Yu Garden and Chenghghuang Temple are about a ten-minute walk if you turn right out of the hotel, and it's also easy to get to Nanjing Road and the Bund. For breakfast, there's a robot that makes dumplings and noodles. If you need anything, just call, and the robot will deliver it to your room in a few minutes, which is super convenient. Thumbs up!
