The Block Hotel & Commons

Great place along the river Great place, right along the river and across from the park and the recreation center. We walked along the river trail at night and in the morning. There have been moose sightings along the river trail and people fly fish all along the river here. Great location!! Amazing communal kitchen and shared spaces. Great events in the evening in addition to board games, fire pit, jenga, a great bar… It was very quiet except the doors are very heavy and you can hear the heavy doors opening and closing which woke me up often. I grabbed some free ear plugs from the front desk which helped. The blinds let a lot of light through so if you are light sensitive, they do not have black out curtains. But overall, I HIGHLY recommend for value, quality, location, events and the hostel community!!

I like the kindness of the staff. The patio with a trail and a river view. Only I didn’t know there is no inside bathroom in my room. But the common bathrooms are good.

We loved our stay in room 104, the staff was superb, and surprisingly despite the events we never had issues with noise which was very nice. The only item I'm dinging the property with is ventilation. The 104 wing needs proper ventilation in several areas. 1. In the all gender showers black mold is growing as a result of insufficient exhaust. Steam is trapped in each shower cell and making cleaning impossible. 2. The individual bathrooms are sealed and do not have vents at the top. This is extremely nice for all gender privacy but it traps stink for hours. Either tripling central exhaust CFM and increasing the ceiling gap or adding building exhaust to each cell would eliminate the issue. 3. The entire hallway needs outside exhaust to remove smells from the rooms & hallway. There are plenty of smells in the hallway that buildup simply due to a complete lack of airflow, and the individual rooms also trap air (I think the internal system either doesn't bring in any fresh air, or it only recirculates in the room. Anyways it might sound like we had a bad stay, but I would recommend this place to anyone with some significant adjustments I addressed.
