AMAR Design Hotel by HMG

I stayed in a corner room with a bathtub. The room was more spacious than I expected, and the bed was really comfortable, so I had a relaxing stay. Breakfast was average. There’s only one elevator and it’s quite slow, so it’s a bit inconvenient if you’re staying on a higher floor.

Amar Design Hotel is a gem and located in a quiet street in Serdeki only 3 minutes walk from the busy Lions’ Bridge and 15 minutes walk from the Central Station. Many restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood. I was a walk in customer without reservation and welcomed by the receptionist. According to the receptionist was the hotel completely refurbished 8 months ago, hence everything looked and felt very new. The elevator had glass windows on the outer side, hence a view. My room was perfect with a double bed. One of the best beds I have ever had in a hotel, firm and excellent. The large TV had many well known international news channels in various languages. Because the hotel is located in a very quiet street, I turned off the A/C and opened the window fully during the night. This is the way I prefer it. No problem and no noise, due to almost non-existent traffic at night. The bathroom was very modern, although fairly small. Also the in-room safe was small. There was a fully stocked mini-bar in the room. Evacuation plan very clearly marked on the inside of the door. Because I had to check-out before the restaurant opened the following day, a breakfast box was offered to me. I accepted this offer and upon check-out at 06:30 a new receptionist saw on his screen, that a breakfast box was ready for me. He collected it from the kitchen, so very fresh. Thank you and well done Amar Design Hotel. Next time I visit Sofia, I will definitely return to your hotel.

The hotel had an excellent location and was clean, but that's where it ends. The staff was not that friendly but helpful. The room was modern but very warm and noisy. The bathroom is extremely uncomfortable. The drain is in the middle of the bathroom, which is extremely illogical because you can no longer enter the bathroom after a shower without shoes to do your hair or go to the toilet. There are no electrical outlets in the bathroom. The breakfast is of poor quality. Everything is industrial, and the person in charge is extremely unfriendly. Fruit juices are not replenished and the eggs, fried bacon and other hot dishes are cold because the appliances are turned off. This was the case for 4 days. I made a comment about the fruit juices and the dishes, but this was not responded to. The rest of the breakfast was also not properly replenished. Think carefully before booking this hotel.
