Hotel Soldeu Maistre

We have just stayed here as a group of 13 for a skiing trip, We were a mixed party of adults and children staying on a half board basis. The hotel is lovely, very clean, warm and plenty of hot water after a days skiing, all rooms seemed to have baths with overhead showers, bonus for aching bodies. Beds are so comfy, rooms are a little small and storage is tight. We all commented on lack of storage, some of the group had packed over door hangers which seemed a bonus. All staff were very pleasant and always greeted you with a smile, the lounge areas are bright, clean and the bar is excellent value for money, only €2 for a glass of wine. The only negative I have and it’s something the hotel should maybe consider changing, even by an hour would be good, is the evening service for tea doesn’t start till 20.00. When you have skied all day with children who are shattered to wait to 20.00 is impossible, we have never stayed anywhere with such a late service time. We were aware of it before we stayed there but you think you can manage but you can’t. We were having to have lunch on the slopes and then calling into the pubs to have snacks of pizza etc before tea. The food was lovely and plentiful but the waiting to 20.00 spoiled it as you weren’t particularly hungry by then. Other people seemed to skip the 20.00 service as well.

Great value hotel in the centre of Soldeu, with excellent service from the family owners and their team. Not the first time we've stayed here, and it didn't disappoint - the room was comfortable, the restaurant was fine, and the bar and lounge area was comfortable. Thank you for a lovely stay, and for the early breakfast on our departure day!

We stayed for a week using the hotel as a base for a walking holiday. This was a great stay. Lovely hospitality from all staff. Breakfast was fresh and more than sufficient for a day of hiking. Take out lunches were filled baguettes that were generous and tasty. The set menu is great value at 12 euros with 4 choices for each course and the flexibility for vegetarians was appreciated. A twin room was comfortable and spacious. Recommended

I have stayed at this Hotel over the past 10 years. The staff, especially Terrasinha, has been very welcoming & friendly. The Hotel is spotless. Food with soup to start, various choices of fish, veggie, meal, numerous tasty salads, plenty of cheeses & too many puddings to choose from. House wine is very reasonably priced & enjoyable. In fact all alcoholic drinks are good measures! Ski lockers in basement; short walk along a quiet rurally used lane to the main gondola. Spot the old farm buildings on the huge photograph behind reception.

Ticks most boxes for a ski holiday. Rooms relatively basic but generally clean (although we did find a random pair of pants in our sons room!). Storage space a bit of a premium & lacking hooks for hanging up wet clothing (although this isn’t uncommon). The ski lockers are in the garage below and there’s no heating, so wouldn’t recommend leaving boots in there, plus space is limited (could fit in one snowboard & one pair of skis - had to store the other board in our room which the staff weren’t overly happy about). Rooms are warm, beds are comfortable and water nice and hot. Would recommend taking ear plugs as the walls are thin (so you’re very much dependent on your neighbours!). Decent selection of food at meal times with a few unusual choices at times (some obscure type of fish & rabbit on a couple of occasions). Was fine for me but I imagine fussy types may struggle, plus very limited vegetation options. Short walk to the slopes & close to supermarkets & bars, so decent location. Would definitely return as it’s cost effective and has the required essentials for a ski holiday.

Second stay at Maistre for a ski holiday, it was as remembered, we were driven here by the value for money price but simple things could improve this as a ski friendly holiday hotel. For example you need to hire lockers at gondola at extra cost and there are no hooks on walls of rooms for wet/damp skiwear. Remembered to bring a multi plug adaptor from last time as there is pretty much one plug socket in the room. The tv was placed in front of the mirror making it pretty tricky to use! Rooms are very tight on space, no shelves in ‘wardrobe’ to unpack anything so lived out of cases for s week! Plenty of hot water which after a very chilly days skiing was much appreciated. Food was ok, managed to find something to eat each evening and morning but the staff aren’t very attentive at restocking items and there is the matter of waiting till 8pm for dinner, 7pm would be so much better in our opinion! Cold beans at breakfast though! Rooms were impeccably cleaned daily. Checking out at 5am for transfer attempted to get our refundable €12 safety deposit box refund, msn behind desk pleaded stupid snd wouldn’t give it! Despite our friends receiving theirs without issue the night before - so word to the wise….return the key the night before! There had been some amazing snow the week running up to our arrival which made for a great ski week, but the hotel is on a steep incline with slate steps at front, the hotel really could have made more of an effort to make their property safer to access in the conditions! Was convinced I’d break a leg before even getting on the slopes! 5 minute walk to gondola, supermarket down and across road, 2 mins, pubs a few minutes away also. So many more hotels to stay at in Soldeu, but the price is the fairest in the current climate. That’s the only reason we’d choose Maistre again.

Had a lovely stay in February. Hotel clean. All staff very pleasant and helpful. We arrived late and they had plated us dinner which was very welcome and good. Bar reasonably priced. Close to everything we needed. Food was good, lots of choice, boot locker very handy. Hot water and warm hotel. All in all very impressed. We would go back and I would recommend.

Stayed here for a week on a skiing holiday in feb 2023. Hotel was comfortable, clean and cheapest place for drinks. BUT, avoid if you’re a fussy eater as food selection is minimal and we were served raw chicken on 2 separate occasions. Overall good place to stay but not for food

This hotel is good value, it is clean, has friendly staff and is only a 6-7 minute walk to the Gondola Station. The bar area is also comfortable and good value and was visited by locals/seasonal workers on occassions. There are no additional leisure facilities at the hotel. The food was plentiful and the room was of reasonable size however there are aspects of meals and the room that could easily be improved. The food selection and quanity available was good, however cooked items for all meals were prepared early and then left under heated lamps and so some items became dry and overcooked, eggs at breakfast and lamb at dinner being two examples. Instead of spending a significant time preparing so much food in advance of meal times, the kitchen would do better to refresh the dishes on two or three occassions during mealtimes. Our room was a good size, clean and had comfortable beds and a fully functional bathroom with plenty of hot water. However although there was plenty of wall space, there were no hooks to hang damp ski gear and outdoor clothing, not even on the back of the door and there was very limited hanging or drawer space. All three of these things are absolutely essential in a ski hotel. These critisisms could be so easily fixed, I hope the owners can address these issues. I would definately return and strongly recommend this hotel to those on a budget if they were.
