OX Hotel Spean Bridge

It was excellent to start off the holiday high at this hotel. The hotels green approach was very refreshing to see! After a long drive it took just a puff of the friendly atmosphere at the hotel to make me feel better. High praise to the tea! Really was a super high quality visit to Make it blunt. I had a lovely time with my bud here!

The overnight stay was better than expected quite honestly. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and best of all it was very quiet which was conducive to a good night’s undisturbed sleep. Breakfast was extra which we had, there was a choice of Scottish, English or Continental. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant.

We actually loved this hotel, for what it was! Pros: - The room was enormous! It had a bathtub (very important to us after hours hiking Nevis!), it had coffee making facilities (which many places now lack). The beds were so comfortable, had a great couple of nights sleep here! - The hotel was quiet. There was no noise, the walls carry the sound well, very peaceful. - Staff in general were friendly, kind and helpful. - Location is good. 15mins from Ben Nevis, 45 mins from Glencoe and The Harry Potter Bridge. There is a Spar mini market and a pharmacy next door which is exceptionally useful for anything you need and want. Cons: - It is not a luxury hotel, but does not subscribe itself to be. It is more than adequate for a place to rest your head, but is tired and needs some TLC. - Breakfast was expensive for what it was. No option of choices, you get what you’re given with no substitutes. I would recommend driving into Fort William for better breakfast options, personally. - Main restaurant was OK. Menu is minimal, food OK. Genuinely, however, for what we needed, this hotel was perfect. I cannot rate it 5* because it’s not a 5* hotel and it has its flaws. But it’s perfect as a base to return to at the end of the day; it’s clean, comfortable, quiet, friendly and provides a pint and a hot meal. Perfect for a hiking pair in the area. Ended up staying here 3 nights when only booked for 1.

For the price and size of hotel you’d expect a little more. The hotel is clean, but small things like the screw in the lock are a disappointment. Do you blame the handy man for this or the decorator that painted over it? It’s just a lock, but this demonstrates lack of investment, you could argue that it’s a quick fix, but painting over it suggests not…

We stayed here for one night in June on route to Mull from the east coast. We knew we were going to be a late check in but that wasn’t a problem for hotel. Arrived about 9pm and found a very lovely helpful Lady dealing with restaurant and reception. We were shown to an external room and shown where we could find breakfast in the morning. Although the decor is a little dated the room was very clean and comfortable. My only gripe is the strength of the green light in the emergency light and the powerful lights outside, they made me very restless through the night, so my recommendation is to take an eye mask and you’ll be fine.
