The Egilsen is a quaint small hotel with 10 rooms. It’s in an old building and the rooms are on various floors (no elevator if that’s an issue for you). Staff was charming and welcoming. We had a Queen room which was comfortable but small, with a small en-suite bathroom. Fine for one night but might be uncomfortable for longer as there’s no place to spread out. We had tea downstairs when we first arrived in the combination lobby/dining area. With only two restaurants in town we had booked ahead at Narfeyrarstofa (see separate review). After the evening ferry arrived, town was quiet all night and we were comfortable, although we would have liked an extra pillow but they had none. We initially weren’t going to have breakfast here as it wasn’t included in our rate, but opted for it. It was amazing. See photos but there was cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple, grapefruit, cheese, eggs, salmon, breads and jam. Lovely and worth the price and convenience. We highly recommend this hotel but just know in advance that the room is small, smaller than some staterooms in cruise ships. But for one night it was charming.

A good location in the middle of the town. Our room was on the first floor and was small but very neat and clean. The staff were very obliging and helpful although we were asked to pay the account on check in and the person in charge tried to add another 4000ISK to our already confirmed price. We refused and were told he would have to check with the Manager who was out of town. The thing that upset us was that he could not explain what the extra amount was for. Before we paid the bill on departure we were advised we would only have to pay our original amount with still no explanation about extra payment. We also thought the breakfast was not value for money and we were both given individual trays containing a small continental break fast.

This quirky little hotel sits almost on the harbour front. The welcome was truly great. Friendly, with oodles of help yourself divine teas and coffee. The rooms were basic, but cosy, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was really good. A fabulous selection of fruits, breads and pastries, muesli, together with smoked salmon, cheese , eggs and basic salad items.

Though small, the hotel provided us with a great shower and a comfortable bed. Right across the street from the fabulous Narfeyrarstofa Restaurant (which we ate at both nights during our stay in Stykkisholmur) their breakfast was also absolutely delicious and oh so fresh! It was well worth traveling a little further than we wanted to on our visit to the Peninsula to take in the entire ambience.

I agree generally with the other reviews but beware of room no 1. It is located near the entrance to the hotel and reception and every one passes by the room even while entering the hotel. More than coming to the hotel one passes the window of the room. The room it self is tiny and the washbasin is in the room and not in the tiny bathroom.

Absolutely LOVED our stay here. The free coffee bar, the music playing, the bookshelves and the games, the communal atmosphere. It was all such a welcoming beacon coming in from the massive snowstorm. Our host even gave us dinner on New Years Day because nothing was open :) The rooms were so comfy and the bathroom was completely new and renovated. I can't wait to come back when the peninsula is in more full swing.

What do you expect when you book a "standard hotel room" for 250 EUR per night without breakfast? Certainly not what you will get here. Apart from the looks from the outside and the location there's very little positive about this hotel. Even for icelandic standard, it it massively overpriced - We travel a lot and taking into account the value for money this was worst stay in the last 10 years. We booked a "Standard Room" and received a room which is at best a tiny single room - this room has around 7 sqm (SEVEN) and is in no way "standard" - even single rooms in London city are bigger than this. There was no indication about this when booking this, whilst it is industry standard to specify the approx room size for small rooms. As the room was next to reception we could hear every word from there, from outdoors and from other guests. It was impossible to sleep and could hear the radio blaring from reception at 6/7 in the morning when breakfast was preapred. Other guests mistakenly tried to open the door to out room (which does not autolock) as nobody could imagine that at this location theres indeed a guest room. When confronted with this - reception staff was indifferent and basically accepted this as a fact. A follow up with the hotel aftewards via email just added to the overall impression - they do not care. A few other things to note: - Shower floods the extremly tiny bathroom - Frosted glass door to the bathroom so you can see and hear everything - Sink is not in the bathroom but in the bedroom. - No wardrobe - No TV, no radio, no ipad (although advertised) - No tissues - No kettle - No proper table - Only one chair (if you want to eat, drink, work one person will always have to do so on the bed) - One side of the bed is directly at the wall.

This tiny hotel is a total gem! A warm, friendly welcome, super attention to detail (down to lovely individual branded ceramics) and the most comfortable bed we had on our Iceland trip - cocoa matting! We simply loved our time here in a stunning port ideally situated for the gorgeous Snaefelnes Peninsula.
