We booked our stay at Hotel Gran Biata through Crystal ski. This was our first ski holiday and we couldn’t fault the hotel. Food was delicious and there is plenty of it. We couldn’t believe the variety of food provided for the evening buffet on top of your three course meal. Staff are very friendly, attentive and nothing was too much to ask. The rooms are dated, but very clean, powerful shower, comfortable bed and quiet. Luckily this hotel is set back from the main square so we could barely hear the music that was playing for Dutch week. There is a TV in the room but unfortunately wasn’t a smart TV, and every channel was Italian so couldn’t use this. Lovely stay and hope to be back one day!

I’m order to leave a helpful review, you need to take account of all the aspects of a hotel and it’s services. I have just returned from a week’s stay with 10 other friends, so have gained quite a broad picture. My main focus is on food and booze, but the rest of the hotel was clean, efficient and friendly. The totting up of the final bill on the last day was correct down to the last penny (cent). The hotel is not particularly expensive, but what they offer and provide for that is, in my opinion, very good indeed. I certainly cannot agree with the ‘disappointing’ food comments, as I found it perfectly good. There is certainly some creativity with ingredients, but that’s half the fun. Breakfasts are by buffet, and dinners by buffet followed by service. There is certainly plenty to eat - I like my food, and always left the room full and fat! There were always three options for each of starters, mains and puddings, and with the pre-buffet and a simple ‘English’ side-buffet, made a total of 5 courses, if you wanted. Wine is really good, with a wide range (even the house wine carafe at €15 was perfectly drinkable). The bar are is huge, with either comfy sofas, or tables big enough for all 11 of us to sit around. Service again was friendly - maybe a third option for beer would be good, but pilsner and IPA was good enough. Rooms are a little dated, but cleanliness for me is more important than marble tiles and gold taps, and it was certainly clean and tidy, with beds dressed every day on return. Boot room is a little tired, and could do with a bit more space, but it works, and there are boot dryers available. Overall, if I were to return, I’d certainly seek the Baita out again.

I am getting a little sceptical regarding reviews. There have been glowing reviews left regarding the food at this hotel which don't match our experience at all, one of which was for the same week as us. The review titled 'Nice hotel but disappointing food' for a stay in Dec 23 is very accurate and we do not need to say more. Reviews are supposed to be helpful for future guests and a chance for the hotel to improve where needed. I can only think that some people do not want to admit even to themselves that, having spent their hard earned money on a holiday, they are disappointed in any way. Please think of those trying to make an informed choice on where to stay and be accurate with your review so they too are not disappointed, not to mention aiding the hotel in possible areas to improve

Hotel Gran Baita deserve all of their brilliant reviews as the service, food and accommodation are all excellent. We stayed in a standard double and our room was quite spacious with loads of storage. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with a powerful shower and great hot water supply. All of the food was delicious and there's lots of it which is great for hungry skiers. The breakfast buffet has a really good selection of hot and cold food. I prefer the healthier options so was extremely happy with the fruit, cereal and yoghurt but they also offer several cakes and sometimes tiramisu. The strong, fresh, coffee was another bonus. The 4 course evening meal starts with a self-serve buffet then you get to choose from options for the other 3 courses. There's also an extensive wine list and it's all quite reasonably priced. The hotel has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere which is thanks to the really lovely service. All of the staff are welcoming, efficient and will go out of their way to help you. They even helped a group of us organise a private minibus over to Montgenèvre... so thank you Gran Baita! Hotel Gran Baita is in a central location and just a couple of minutes walk to the centre. There's a boot room at the hotel but we rented skis from Eydallin which is at the bottom of the Clotes lift. They offer free storage with over 3 days rental so it's much more convenient as all of Sauze d'Oulx is on a hill. The Sportinia lift is further away and the buses aren't free so you have to pay 10 Euros for a weekly pass. We didn't need this but other guests told us that you need to buy the pass before you get on the bus. You can only buy a one-way pass on the bus for 2.50 Euros so people don't realise on the first trip.

Fantastic hotel, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. The bar area was warm and cosy and felt very relaxing after a long days skiing. It’s a short walk to the ski lift station too which was handy for each morning. I would highly recommend this hotel!

A wonderful, welcoming, clean, and friendly family run hotel. Everyone was so nice and helpful. My son has severe food allergies, they coped and managed this really fantastically. The rooms are clean and cosy, close to amenities. The food is glorious, lots of choice, fresh salads, meats, cheeses and vegetables- right up my street! . Following on, are the main courses lots of choice, all beautifully cooked and tasty. The staff,( I have to name Bianca and Rafaela) who are all so lovely, helpful, smiley and efficient. I would highly recommend and look forward to the day I come back. I would give more stars if I could.

One of the reasons we chose this hotel over others were the reviews, particularly those about the food. Our experience did not match these reviews. Our main issues were the lack of hot food, food which was meant to be hot was served lukewarm at best which, by the time you had finished, was cold. We have never been served cold broccoli, carrots, cauliflower cheese, ratatouille, green beans, courgettes as part of the evening meal buffet but here this was an everyday occurrence. The bacon, sausages and baked beans for breakfast were served lukewarm every day and were therefore colder the later you had breakfast. The quality of the food was not particularly good and we are not fussy eaters. We soon realised we had to eat much more for breakfast and lunch to sustain us as we could not rely on the evening food to do so. Table service was not great and appeared to lack organisation. Staff would repeatedly check our options but the length of time between courses was long and unpredictable. As the evening meal did not start until 7.30, a very long time to wait after a day skiing/snowboarding, we often did not finish eating until 9.30-10pm. Especially at breakfast, we had to repeatedly ask staff for refilling of basic foods eg bread, yoghurt, milk, butter, water. Although cereal was provided, until about mid week, you had to ask for both a bowl and a spoon to eat it with. We stayed in the same area last year at a different hotel and the food was vastly superior in quality, temperature, options and quantity. A must for any winter activity holiday is an earlier evening meal with plentiful hot food. The rooms were very pleasant, although we would imagine that, had they been fully booked, the noise level could have been a problem as the walls appeared paper thin. Great lounge area with plenty of games provided. Location gave easy access to the ski bus with the most lovely helpful driver and was right in the middle of the village. Great skiing areas
