Shanxi Hotel

The hotel's architectural features and rich historical and cultural heritage are undeniable – it's a landmark in Taiyuan, even all of Shanxi, and a popular spot with tourists flocking all day long. The surrounding area is also very convenient. However, given its age (a century old), the room facilities are a bit dated. For example, the floor in the room was uneven, and the soundproofing wasn't great. The breakfast, though, was very distinctive and delicious.

My overall experience staying at Shanxi Hotel was excellent. The architecture has an antique charm, and the courtyard environment is elegant, with beautiful lighting at night. The room was very clean and well-equipped, making for a comfortable and reassuring stay. The front desk service was attentive and responsive. The location is convenient, not far from nearby attractions. The breakfast offered a good variety and tasted delicious. It combines a sense of culture with practicality, making it suitable for both leisure travel and short stays. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Taiyuan.

This is a popular 'influencer' hotel, and the lighting is indeed stunning. Guests staying at the hotel can book dinner reservations, which is great as it saves you from queuing. The service is quite good, though the facilities are a bit dated. Breakfast was nice.

Shanxi Hotel has a rich history, and its exterior is a highlight of the local night scenery. I checked in on the Mid-Autumn Festival and wanted to dine at the hotel, but I couldn't get a table. The hotel should consider offering some priority to its guests. When driving in and out of the main gate, the surrounding environment was a bit chaotic, so caution is advised.

Before booking, I saw many negative reviews about the hotel's outdated facilities and the courtyard parking. I debated whether to book, but curiosity eventually got the better of me as I wanted to experience this trendy Shanxi hotel. I stayed in the 'Jin Xian Lou' (Pure Yang Ya Ju) to the left of the main entrance, and the experience was awful. **Pros**: The service staff were all excellent, from the front desk during check-in to the breakfast servers and housekeeping. The room also had high ceilings, which I guess is a plus. The breakfast was alright. **Cons**: The elevator in the Jin Xian Lou had no ventilation; it was stifling hot as soon as you stepped in. The hallway outside the elevator had an indescribable musty smell. Upon entering the room, there was also an unpleasant odor, so I immediately opened the windows for ventilation. I could tolerate the room being old, and the cleanliness of a 45-square-meter room was just okay. However, I was shocked when I got to the bathroom. The plating on the shower faucet was peeling off, the shower door seal was yellowed and stiff, making it impossible to close the door. I didn't dare turn the shower water up too high. Also, the toilet seemed smaller than standard size, with an aftermarket smart lid that was positioned very oddly; a larger person probably wouldn't even fit. **Complaints**: For such a seemingly magnificent hotel, I found four hangers insufficient. I asked housekeeping for more wooden hangers, but they said they didn't have any wooden ones. They eventually brought back an assortment of plastic, wire, and other materials. Of course, housekeeping tried their best, but it's laughable that such a high-end hotel would use these hangers. Doesn't it cost much to buy some wooden hangers? The room I stayed in faced the courtyard (which was more like a public parking lot). The electronic sounds of license plates being called out from outside the window started from 6:30 AM and didn't quiet down until after 11:00 PM, along with car horns and other noises in between. The hotel hosts many groups and conferences, which makes it very noisy. It's not suitable for individual travelers who prefer a quiet stay. I will not choose to stay here again if I return to Taiyuan. It's all show and no substance, not worth it 👎

A very good hotel with an excellent location, making it convenient for getting around. Plenty of dining options nearby as well. The parking lot is large with ample spaces. The breakfast, in particular, was fantastic.

This hotel boasts a rich and meaningful history, which is truly remarkable. Its location is superb, offering excellent accessibility. As a standard five-star establishment, the facilities, service, and cleanliness are all top-notch. The evening light show is absolutely stunning and makes it a popular spot for photos. We even received complimentary tickets to the Chunyang Palace and a fruit platter, making it an excellent value for money stay.

The hotel environment is great, and the night view is beautiful. It's a popular spot for social media check-ins, located right next to Wuyi Square. Just a short walk away are Liuxiang Street and Gulou Street, making shopping and dining very convenient and quick. Highly recommended!

The service was warm and attentive, and the breakfast was abundant with a variety of local specialty snacks. The room was clean and tidy. I accidentally left my razor in the room when I checked out, and the front desk promptly notified me, which I really appreciate.
