Patricks with Rooms Apartments

We stayed at Patrick’s With Rooms last week for a long weekend. We were disappointed with quite a few things. The room was spacious but in need of a deep clean and to get to it we had to walk up a very steep hill and then climb so many stairs! None of this had been shared with us upon booking and when I mentioned this to the lady taking us to the room she said “it’s that high up you have a beautiful view” that was correct if you only looked towards the sea but if you looked down then you would see the staff smoking area complete with staff smoking. Breakfast was still being served to the rooms. The strict Covid rules no longer stand but it seems no breakfast in the restaurant was still in place at Patrick’s! Why? Who knows 🤷‍♂️ We never got to the bottom of it, all we know is at £200 per night we were served a breakfast roll with cereal and croissants to our room. Freshly squeezed orange juice it says online and the first morning that is what we believe we received but morning number two after taking a big gulp of what appeared to be the same as the morning before I had a bit of a shock, the juice had clearly been watered down with soda water! The WiFi was too poor to use but luckily our own phone signal was ok. It stated online they had a 24 hour desk, we tried calling for over an hour one morning and couldn’t get any answer. The location however was amazing, walkable to everything Mumbles and the room had a nice size fridge which was a real bonus. The shower was fine and our boy did enjoy the fact there was a good size bath. We would go back to Mumbles but not to Patrick’s With Rooms.

Stayed as a family of four with two young kids in August. The place is a nice B&B and is what you’d expect for a place near the coast. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Rooms are a good size and we were given two camp beds for the kids that worked well. Well decorated and decent amenities for a B&B. Only rating three stars because I struggled to get a good sleep here. The beds are old, squeaky and uncomfortable. The rooms are also really noisy. Windows are poor and let in noise from the road. You can hear the room above walking around. Currently writing this at 4am with music blaring from somewhere next door. Breakfast has been great but it would have been nice to be served in the restaurant now restrictions have been removed, especially since the restaurant operates in the evening. Really good selection though delivered on time every morning. Great location for the Mumbles with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Short walk to the pier and a short drive to loads of nice beaches.

Patricks is quite expensive guest accommodation. Our son and his wife spent their wedding night here a few years ago and loved it. What has happened since? The room: We had room 1. It was adequate and reasonably clean, though furniture tired. 'Complementary' tea and coffee did not include biscuits, which we found a bit stingy. The kettle sat on top of a mini fridge at ground level so I had to grovel on my knees to make anything to drink. The room was at the front of the building and the traffic noise was persistent and loud until late on the Saturday, as were the sounds from the revellers below. It wasn't too bad on the Thursday and Friday. Breakfast: extremely poor. Left outside our room on a tray to be eaten at a quite unsuitable table.The full english is 1 slice of bacon, 1 sausage and an egg in an indifferent roll. There was also a mini croissant but no clean plate for it. The worst thing was that I had to grovel on the floor again to make a mug of tea. Bathroom: Victorian style bath in the middle of the room. Shower curtain too short. We flooded the floor with every shower. Actual shower adequate, though difficult to maintain a steady temperature. Without the heating on there is no means to dry towels, so i had to dry myself with a damp towel on day 2. I did speak to the manageress after the first night and they changed the table and chairs so we could at least sit to a table to eat. She suggested we leave. Had there been any alternative we would have like a shot. This experience has cost us over £450. And I had been so looking forward to being away from home.

We went to Mumbles for the weekend to visit family for the first time since February 2020. We knew Patricks and have often eaten there or enjoyed drinks in their bar/lounge area. We were greeted very warmly and invited to enjoy drinks while our rooms were being prepared. We had 2 rooms, one twin and one with a king size bed. Both rooms were spacious and contained lots of thoughtful little touches, e.g bottled water and small fresh milk in the bar fridges, iron and ironing board, etc. Both rooms over looked the ocean and were tastefully and comfortably furnished. As a result of the current pandemic health regulations breakfast is served in the rooms - the breakfast tray was loaded with delicious goodies, including both hot and cold items. Every time we saw any of the staff they were professional but more than that they were friendly and you are left feeling like you are spending the weekend with friends. We can't rate this place highly enough - you MUST simply try it for yourself.

From start to finish the whole checking in and out experience was very straight forward. We were extremely fortunate with our room as it was one with a sea view, tastefully decorated, bordering on quirky, spacious, light and airy. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We weren’t able to dine in due the restrictions however breakfast was an absolute gem, everything you could wish for, room service, with a smile, delightfully presented, cereals, continental and a breakfast baguette with freshly squeezed orange juice, with tea and coffee readily available in the room. We were able to park right outside, very very lucky with that! There is a car park directly opposite the hotel. Everything within a stones throw, bars, pubs, restaurants and take-aways with an abundance of outdoor drinking and dining areas. Thanks Catherine and team, we can’t wait to return. Highly recommended.
