A very beautiful little castle, said to be from the 12th century. It is not luxuriously decorated, but warm and tidy. The dinner is a simple three-course meal, not at all the heavily seasoned ones you eat out. It is said to have the original flavor of better French food. It is a very good castle accommodation experience.

Hotel has a no refund policy and is very pricey. Beware before booking here and spending a large sum when most other locations will provide some type of refund.

Staying at the exquisite Chateau de Thorens is a once in a lifetime experience and a memory my family and I will treasure. It’s not a typical hotel experience; it’s more like being welcomed to stay at a friend’s chateau, one that just happens to be out of a fairytale. If you’re looking for a pampering spa hotel, don’t come here. If you want a lovely, friendly welcome where the hosts want you to enjoy the tranquility, the peace, the loveliness, then this is for you. Definitely have dinner at the chateau! We ended up meeting another couple and having a four hour dinner with so many courses that I lost count (each one delicious) and Geoffrey stayed until midnight, thrilled that we were enjoying the castle. I practiced French with the count and wandered the woods. Honestly, it was perfect. If you’re open to a unique and lovely stay in the countryside, not too far from Annecy, definitely stay here! Even our 17 year old daughter loved it (and if you know teens, that’s high praise indeed).

There is absolutely nothing but nothing going on at this place. There is hardly any furniture in the place. Apart from the few and I mean very few guest bedrooms, there is no area to sit and relax except one dining room which has also barely anything going on. How it got more than a one star rating blows my mind. It’s a sad sad empty place. There is exactly one employee; a very young guy in his T-shirt and shorts running the whole place- not that there is much to run. Only WiFi in room - nowhere else. No reception foyer or lounge. Just nothing!! I wouldn’t stay here for free but they charged almost $300. They have zero amenities or activities or ambiance. What a waste of time and money. Stay away! Best advice

Disappointed. I had high hopes but this place fell short of everything but the exterior. The welcome was awkward, and nobody offered to assist us with our suitcases. The room was large, but was also filled with bugs along the walls (see photo.!!) The person working there would not accommodate us for a 7am breakfast (kind of ridiculous, even though I paid for it in advance.) The stay was just not warm/welcome. I don’t recommend staying overnight, maybe just a day time visit.
