Property Description
This charming bungalow is a 100-year-old fishermans cottage conveniently located between the historic district and Tybee Island. Thunderbolt, GA is an independent hamlet in Savannah, known for its petite coastal homes, proximity to the intercoastal waterway (a short walk from the house), the fresh shrimp dock, and its easy peace and quiet. THE SUGAR SHACK This partially renovated 1100-square foot home offers 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and is the ideal home away from home. It boasts a wrap-around porch with a porch swing and additional seating, white picket fence, woodsy lot, giant 250-year-old live oak tree, and whitewashed shiplap interior - it's the simple South personified. Indeed, it served as a principal location for the movie The Gift (2000) with Cate Blanchett. It is equipped with keyless locks to keep things simple, screen doors on both entrances so you can catch a cool breeze, as well as high-speed internet, a 32" Smart TV, and lots of books and magazines for you to get cozy with. Parking is ample - enough for around 4 cars, should you have visitors. We love this home, and trust that you will too! KITCHEN & DINING The kitchen has what it takes to keep you comfortable during a longer stay. If you like to cook, we have got you covered with real dishes, pots and pans, silverware, knives, cutting boards, basic spices and even a couple of cookbooks. It has most of the gadgets you might need, including a microwave, tea kettle, coffee maker (and french press!), icemaker and dishwasher. The washer and dryer are also tucked away in the kitchen. We will provide starter supplies of coffee and paper towels. The adjacent dining room has a 4-person table that has played host to many a good evening. It is perfect for dinner, drinks, or that 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle you were thinking of bringing. BEDROOM & BATH This home includes two bedrooms, each with a queen bed that is well-appointed and comfortable for two. The living room sofa converts into a bed (with its own linens), offering an additional sleeping area. The full bath was remodeled last year and is AMAZING - light, bright, big and airy. You'll find it stocked with complimentary starter toiletries, fluffy towels, and a starter supply of toilet paper. OUTDOOR AREAS If you have had your fill of the porch, check out the backyard - it is shaded by that 250-year-old oak we mentioned, which is the centerpiece of our official National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Some of our favorite natural wonders are the resident barred owls, Johnny and June, who make their appearance (and some owlets) every spring that stay til the fall! There is a beautiful marble firepit out back that was handmade by dear friends, and there is a firewood pile that you are welcome to use (remember to be careful of spiders when getting some wood, and please do not leave any backyard fire unattended.) THE LOCATION Nestled in an ideal location, this property is a short 15-minute drive from Savannah’s historic district where you can tour historic downtown, world-class art museums, and dine at a variety of top-rated restaurants. Drive 15-minutes in the opposite direction and you can enjoy a day at the beach on Tybee Island. Other nearby attractions within a 10-minute drive of the property include Thunderbolt Marina; Bonaventure Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Savannah; and Historic Grayson Stadium, home of the minor league baseball team the Savannah Bananas. *discounts available for long-term rentals, please inquireAbout pets:No pets allowed.About checkOut:Check out before 11:00 AM.About children:Adults only.About checkIn:Check in after 4:00 PM.About smoking:Smoking is not permitted.About events:No events allowed.

This was a great little house. The inside was great and the landscaping was amazing. The first night the AC went out and the host was very easy to communicate with and she had the issue resolved by the next day. We would definitely stay here again.

Charming house Loved every part of the house except it needs railings for the stairs outside. I know it’s an older home but the steps were difficult for my elderly mother. It’s a gorgeous little house. Beds were comfortable but for the listing it should say 2 bedrooms. The futon couch is in the living room technically.

Going to miss that porch! Such a charming place! It was perfect for our girls trip right between Savannah & Tybee Island. The covered wrap around deck with porch swing was so inviting, I miss it already. We enjoyed quiet mornings sipping our coffee or tea out there, listening to the birds & the delightful smell of the honeysuckle covered white picket fence. The huge spanish moss draped oak in the backyard is magical. Such a beauty. The home was very neat & clean & had the basics for our stay. The neighborhood is quiet & several very good restaurants are within walking distances. Can also walk to & along the nearby river for fantastic views.

Great bungalow Great location half way between Tybee Island and downtown. Host was easy to get a hold of. We did not receive our check-in instructions. I emailed her and she responded right away. Could have turned disastrous, but was great.

Cute house, somewhat disappointing We had little contact with the host. We had not received our door code to get in the house and waited 30 minutes outside for a response from our texts and voice calls leaving a message. When we got in and unpacked we wanted to watch TV until the other guests arrived but the remote was not working. I texted the host to see if there were any batteries in the house and she responded that she would check but we never heard back from her. We did purchase batteries to replace the ones there. We had a ceiling leak the second night in the kitchen, the trash disposal in the sink was not working so there was some backup into the sink when we used used the dishwasher or hand washed dishes. There were 2 cooking pans (a large skillet a medium sized saucepan). We had to be creative in their use to cook for 4 adults. Most of the dishes and utensils had to be washed before use as they just weren't clean. The biggest concern was the side gate entrance--there is a log walkway there that is a tripping hazard and unfortunately it was pouring when we left the last day and we had to walk through at least 4 inches of water to get out of the gate. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was great, the wood floors beautiful, and the property was really nice. Given that we arrived on the 26th, it would have been nice if there was some type of holiday decoration (a simple wreath or some greenery inside) to help us with our celebrations.

Great stay! Great home base for my stay in Savannah. I lived down the street years ago so it was nice to be back in the neighborhood for a few nights.
