St Clair Hotel

Dirty beds (hairs under every layer of sheeting) and dirty bathrooms. Coffee spoons still have coffee on them from last guest. Absolutely disgusting. Sad they don’t take more pride with it being a family business. Tour guide chose this place or our family would be running for the hills. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PLACE unless you don’t mind cleaning up after the last guest.

This little mom & pop hotel is run by super friendly people. Do not expect super luxury but everything works in a down to earth manner. So if you are on a pass-through trip, for example on a motor cycle, then this is an easy going to to place for the night. Nothing spectacular, but as mentioned, the most friendly people run it and that counts for something.

Food was very good, from scratch fish cakes, the room however was not, tiny bed and dirty bathroom, very sad as our tour had chosen this hotel for two nights, needs some upgrades. Needs to be updated felt like something from the 1960.

Loved this small, family run hotel. It was spotless and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms are small but very clean and with everything you need. The breakfasts and dinners were excellent. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Went for dinner. Starters were good, main course of fish and chips came with breaded haddock, chips however not home made by the looks of it. No vegetables or salad at all on the plate or no side dish and came with a small dish of what looked like tartar sauce. Eton mess was quite sloppy, no fresh fruit through it and appeared to be fruit flavoured cream with meringue crushed through it. For what we paid I would say and sorry to say it was quite poor really.

Stayed here before but not for a long time. The rooms on the top floor seem to have had a refresh since my last visit. No complaints at all about the room, tv didn’t work second night but it wasn’t a deal breaker for me. Shower pressure could have been better but was totally adequate to get cleaned up. Food tasted lovely but portions not the biggest. Breakfast could definitely do with being bigger especially for a worker, on the second day when the hotel was mobbed breakfast was even more disappointing, tatie scones cut in half! really disappointed me as it tasted lovely. All staff were great. No real deal breaking complaints, just wee gripes, would happily stay again.
