Hotel Tosei Cocone Asakusa – Disappointing Policy Handling
I booked two of the largest rooms at Hotel Tosei Cocone Asakusa for my family (2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 child aged 12). The intention was for the child to share existing bedding. The rate paid was about USD 680 per room for 4 nights, which is already on the higher side.
Due to my oversight, I did not include my child’s name in the booking. However, upon check-in, the hotel refused to issue the key cards unless I paid an additional charge of USD 400 for the child for the same 4 nights, despite no extra bed being requested. This amount was almost the cost of the room itself, and I felt I had no choice but to pay at that point.
The male manager stated that the hotel’s policy requires a supplement for children above 6 years old. After checking in, I showed a screenshot from the hotel’s own website, which stated that children sharing existing bedding stay for free. At this point, the explanation changed — the manager insisted that the website policy only applies to direct bookings, and that bookings made through Trip.com follow a different policy that is not published on the hotel’s website. This shifting of goalposts felt very unfair and misleading, and the entire interaction was extremely unpleasant.
Location-wise, the hotel is not particularly close to the train station, which may be inconvenient for families with luggage.
On the positive side, the room itself was clean and comfortable. However, housekeeping service was very limited. I left the room at 10:00 AM with the “please clean” sign on and returned at 2:30 PM, but the room had not been cleaned. When I left again at 3:30 PM and requested housekeeping, I was told that the cleaning staff had already gone home, so cleaning was no longer possible for the day.
Overall, while the room condition was acceptable, the lack of transparency in child policy, inflexible handling at check-in, and very limited housekeeping service significantly affected our stay. I would advise families to clarify child charges in writing before arrival, especially if booking through third-party platforms.
