Property Description
Ah, my dear traveler, allow me to paint a portrait of timeless charm and nostalgic grace, all nestled within the heart of our humble abode overlooking Main Street in the picturesque hamlet of Toledo, Oregon.
Visualize yourself sauntering along the bustling sidewalk of Main Street, your gaze lifting to the second floor of a venerable edifice, steadfast since the dawn of the 20th century. Ascending the broad, carpeted staircase, each step tells tales of yore, ushering you into a realm where time meanders at its own leisurely pace.
Upon crossing the threshold, you're enveloped in the embrace of yesteryear, where vintage mingles seamlessly with the modern. Our spacious two-bedroom apartment, adorned with chiffon curtains boasting delicate embroidered flowers and vintage furniture, whispers tales of days gone by with every turn.
Step into the cozy living room, where sunlight gently caresses the mosaic-patterned carpet, casting a golden hue upon the dining table for four and the plush vintage couch. A vintage electric stone-finished fireplace commands attention, promising evenings of snug warmth and heartfelt conversations.
In the kitchen, a culinary haven illuminated by the glow of granite cookware, beckons to your inner epicurean. Here, all the accouterments await your culinary and coffee endeavors, from the sleek Keurig machine to the rustic allure of a French press or pour-over, each primed to brew the finest Elk City coffee beans to absolute perfection.
As twilight descends upon Main Street, retire to the serenity of our bedrooms, where luxurious linens and downy pillows ensure a night of unparalleled repose. Allow the gentle hum of city life and the distant rhythm of an event-filled day to fade into the background, soothing your spirit as you drift into a realm of tranquil dreams, filled not only with rest but also with anticipation for the adventures that await on the morrow.
Indeed, while our sanctuary offers respite and tranquility, the vibrant pulse of Toledo beckons with promises of adventure and exploration. Just a stone's throw from our doorstep lie the historic treasures of the quaint hamlet nestled along the serene banks of the Yaquina River, where time seems to slow down and the charm of yesteryear lingers in the air. For the weary traveler seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of modern life, Toledo offers a haven of tranquility and a treasure trove of experiences waiting to be discovered.
As you wander the picturesque streets of Toledo, you'll find yourself immersed in a tapestry of history and culture, woven together by the hands of generations past. Museums abound in this charming town, each offering a unique glimpse into Toledo's rich heritage. From the captivating exhibits of the Yaquina Pacific Railroad Historical Society Museum to the fascinating collections housed within the Toledo Historic Museum, there's no shortage of opportunities to delve into the town's storied past. And for those with an appreciation for the arts, the Yaquina River Museum of Art beckons with its stunning displays of creativity and expression.
But Toledo's appeal extends beyond its museums and galleries. The town's vibrant art scene comes alive throughout the year with a series of annual events that celebrate creativity in all its forms. From the lively Art Walk on Labor Day Weekend to the monthly first Saturday Toledo Art event, there's always something exciting happening in Toledo's artistic community. Within a block of Main Street, you'll find an array of fine art galleries, including the Crows Nest Gallery, Ivan Kelly Fine Art Gallery, and Michael Gibbons Fine Art Gallery, each showcasing the talents of local artists. Gaze upon three immense colorful wall covering Murals. And for those with a penchant for unique goods, Murray and Co. Wool Goods offers a charming selection of dyed wool and Root Bound arts offers materials and instruction on furniture adornment, all just waiting to be discovered.
When it comes to dining, Toledo boasts a diverse array of options to tantalize your taste buds. The Timbers Restaurant & Lounge stands as a beloved part of Toledo's history, offering a full bar and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on fast service and comfort food options. Other local dining establishments include the comforting classics served up at Cup of Sass Diner, the mouthwatering pizzas of Cobblestone and Rizza Pizza, the delectable treats of Double Take Donuts, and the savory delights of Moon Dog Hot Dog food cart. And for those craving a cool treat, Dairy Queen is always a delightful option.
Of course, no visit to Toledo would be complete without exploring the town's vibrant community and hospitality. Whether you're grabbing a cup of joe from one of the town's cozy coffee shops like Milltown, Coffee Station, or Thirsty Fisherman, or perusing the fresh produce at the Summer Toledo Waterfront Market, you'll find yourself greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality at every turn. And for those looking to unwind with a refreshing libation, Let er Buck Liquor Store has you covered with its wide selection of spirits and libations. Toledo is a working mill town where brown paper is made. Occasionally, the wind carries the mill’s distinct aroma, affectionately known as the “smell of money,” in our direction. Adjacent to Main Street is a railway used by the mill to transport paper. Federal mandates require the train’s engineer to blow the horn at three crossings in Toledo, which usually lasts about 20 seconds. We provide ear plugs next to the bed stands for your convenience.
So come, dear traveler, and immerse yourself in the timeless charm and boundless beauty of Toledo, Oregon. Whether you're here for a day or a week, you'll find that our quaint hamlet has a way of capturing hearts and leaving lasting memories.
And should you yearn for the salty embrace of the sea, fear not, for the Port of Toledo stands as the gateway to the mighty Yaquina River and the boundless expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Embark on a leisurely stroll along the waterfront promenade, where the river breeze carries whispers of tall tales of the salmon that got away and seafaring adventures.

Really great place to stay if you want to do day trips up and down the coast. It was nice to have a kitchen to have breakfast and make picnic lunches to take with us. The apartment was a generous size with the exception of a very tiny bathroom. It was very functional for a small bathroom. It would have been nice to have a mirror in the second bedroom. I would certainly recommend staying here and would stay again if I am in the area again.

Host was very sweet. Town is small and quiet. It was 100 degrees out and thank God he had lots of fans.

It’s a great place for taking a break. The host is very nice, helpful and responsive. It just 12 minutes drive to Newport!
The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of condiments and even provided instant noodles.

Charming and Centrally Located Apt. in Toledo
First things first: We found our host, Barry, to be very responsive, friendly and communicative. His detailed response to an inquiry on our first day, that was essentially unrelated to the Vrbo rental, was much appreciated and helpful. He also checked in with us during our stay to make sure that we didn't need some essential item and that everything was going well. Concerning the apartment itself: it is indeed vintage and charming (as in Victorian style) in both its furnishings and eclectic decor. It's a spacious, clean two bedroom apt. with a well-equipped kitchen, essential staples and more, including a Keurig coffee brewer and pods, drip coffee maker and even a cone/filters for drip coffee lovers. In keeping with its Victorian theme, there is no TV - however, this wasn't a drawback for us. If there is a downside to this otherwise charming place, it would be the tiny bathroom off the kitchen and the proximity of the railroad down the hill (hence, the ear plugs on the bedside tables). All in all, we enjoyed our stay in Toledo - the apartment met our needs and we appreciated its proximity to both family residing in Toledo and to Newport and the Oregon coast (only 6-7 miles away).
